Hello,

Now that I'm finally back in the valley, I want to find good food!! I want to know of some good spots to get some soul food. Soul food to ME consist of fried chicken, fried fish, BBQ, etc. Any suggestion on where to try?

There's a variety of great bbq places all over the valley, I like Rudy's and Joe's BBQ. I like the Creole Cajun Bistro in South Chandler for things like Jambalaya, Etoufee, etc. For fried chicken there's LoLo's chicken and waffles in a few locations and a fast food restaurant called Slim Chickens just opened spots in Chandler and Gilbert and they sell things such as chicken and waffles, fried okra, etc.

As suggested above, Mrs. White's (no website)

Other favorites in central Phoenix:

Lolo's Chicken & Waffles -- owned by Mrs. White's grandson

MJ BBQ Chicken & Fish -- new place with some really good catfish, hush puppies, & brisket

Papa Joe's Fish-N-Que -- good catfish & hush puppies; fish is better than the 'que here

Ezekiel's in Ahwatukee is really good. It reminds me of the places I went in Atlanta. Their fried chicken is the best we've had in the valley (including Lolo's Chicken & Waffles). We thought Lolo's was okay, but that Ezekiel's was really good.

Yah we enjoyed our food there. The owner and I talked a bit about BBQ, He wanted me to try his brisket. Brought me out a good size sample, and it was very good. Told me how he does it too. Made me a believer.

Not soul food, but the best brisket and best barbecue around is at Little Miss BBQ.

I went to Papa Joe's way back but I think I had a pulled pork sandwich. I'll go back and try the catfish, love some good catfish!!! Thanks for suggestions!
