Phoenix is rather urban for the region but it's not cosmopolitan.

It's not a hick town either, on the other hand. In the winter people from all over the country flock down for beautiful weather, a lot of them are quite wealthy. So it has a feel of a huge resort city. Neiman Marcus and Saks 5th are packed even on the weekdays during the season . There is no hustle and bustle though like you would see in LA or Chicago.

In the summer those people leave while the full-time residents stay, so you see a higher percentage of neck tattoos, elevated trucks, NRA stickers and such.

It's amazing to see the locals taking strolls and riding their bikes in 118° heat. It's not something that I remember seeing in suburban areas of Houston or Dallas. Phoenix definitely has more thought out urban landscape with sidewalks and bike paths.

Phoenix is probably as urban as it can be given the summer weather.

I just simply wanted to know if anyone agree with my daughter's feeling that being from Phoenix makes her a city girl, because my view of Phoenix (in which I live) is very suburban...

As I read these responses, geez. Not sure how this offends you guys...
Wow...
It's middle of summer in Phoenix, and people are getting cranky. Pay no attention to the jabs. Generally Phoenicians are a pretty friendly folk. You just picked the wrong time of year to ask your question

Glendale south of Northern and east of 67th Ave is fairly urban as well, and a portion of that area is in the Phoenix Union High School district (zoned to Alhambra HS)
