It will be interesting to see if this comes together. I could definitely see this as being a potential "game-changer" for Downtown Mesa.

Mesa slated to bring 15-story apartments, hotel to downtown

Quote:
One of the pioneers who helped reinvigorate downtown Phoenix nearly a decade ago with a risky condo project wants to take another risk — this time in downtown Mesa.

Habitat Metro — known for Portland Place Condominiums, Portland on the Park and the recently opened FOUND:RE boutique hotel — wants to bring a 14- or 15-story hotel and apartment complex across the street from the Mesa Arts Center.

"want" is a very relative term...do they "want" to live there or do they HAVE to live there?

Just playing...there are some nice sections of Mesa...and the city is trying. Just would NOT be on the top of my list for places to live.

mine either, but, hey, 1/2 million cant be wrong....or can they?
Yep, lots of nicer areas around Mesa, but as you said, its not for everyone..

Thats what makes this such a great country; you can live in Mesa,Chicago, New York, or Las Vegas....at least we generally have choices where we choose to live, and so many others around the world don't...

Mesa is going vertical now, nice! The city has seriously punched under it's weight for a long time, would love to see it live up to part of it's potential.

I don't really understand the thinking here. Downtown Mesa is still lacking in development and pales in comparison to downtown Chandler and Gilbert in terms of restaurants, night life and development. Downtown Mesa also has a lot of crime and it's adjacent to blighted areas. High rise apartments or buildings are typically expensive due to the construction costs. I fail to understand why anyone with money would invest in those apartments when they can invest elsewhere.

maybe they are betting on a better future, or, the city of Mesa has informed them of some "secret" future plans they have on tap...
