Default How close is Phoenix to Tucson

I have been to Phoenix several times and absolutely fell in love with the desert. I have a fairly mobile job and entertain the possiblity of moving
to Phoenix in the future.

How close is Phoenix to Tucson and are they on the path to become one
metropolitan area in the near (or far) future. It seems that the far southern
suburbs of Phoenix are pretty close to the far northern suburbs of Tuscon.

If they unite, how will change the dynamics of The Valley?

Tucson is about 110 miles southeast of Phoenix.

Whenever both cities become one big contigeous metro area, it won't be in our life time, or anytime in the next 100 years, at least I hope not.

Ha-ha, yeah, right! What do you count - downtown to downtown?! I haven't been up to Phoenix for a long time, but based on what I read here Casa Grande is already a suburb of Phoenix. I count our Oro Valley, Marana, and such as Southern Phoenix. And now Red Rock is filling the middle. Unless most of the land left is reservation land (and it's not like the tribes have anything against money), bet on it happening in your lifetime!

The defining moment will come when the Census Bureau classifies the Phoenix Metro Area and Tucson Metro Area together as a single "combined statistical area." I wouldn't be surprised if it occured after the 2010 census, but I think it's a given that it will occur in 2020. At that point, it is likely that the Phoenix-Tucson CSA will be among the nation's ten largest:

I was being generous and giving you a long life... If you insist on kicking the bucket tomorrow, I'll buy you $100 worth of flowers. Darn, that's not really a subject to make fun of...

The only thing that will prevent Phoenix and Tuscon from becoming one giant blob is the Gila River Reservation which runs from just north of Casa Grande to South Chandler/Ahwatukee.
