Do you know the area? Mesa is a pretty large city.

Parts of East Mesa are weird in a bad way. For some reason, tweakers like those areas. Mesa is also really large. Even a term like East Mesa doesn't really define an area. Generally, the newer parts of East Mesa are safe and decent places to live. I would avoid the Main St/Apache Trail area.

Agree about main and Apache trail (though there was a very good dive bar, pool bar there - Groggy's. The owner died suddenly and it was sold a few years ago, so it may have all changed.) That said, there are many new apts along the light rail, so it's changing.

But far East Mesa has many areas that are very nice, but most are family oriented. There are other pockets of mesa that are older but still safe and not unpleasant.

I don't know your age or budget, but if you're younger and single, or a young couple with no kids, I'd be looking at Tempe and maybe Chandler. The commute would be reverse and easy.

I've lived in east Mesa for the last 6 years and i can't imagine living anywhere else in the valley. If you like outdoor activities, far east Mesa can't be beat. Lakes and rivers, open roads and the Superstition Mountains make for some good times. Some awesome country western bars are fun. The 202 and the 60 freeways make the rest of the valley easy to get to and destinations farther east are a straight shot. Shopping is close at several malls. Superstition Springs and the surrounding area have everything I've ever needed. Tons of restaurants close by.
For me, east Mesa ROCKS.

I would be moving to apartments in this generwl area. 265 N Gilbert Rd, Mesa, AZ 85203 my new job would be about 2 miles from this location.

That isn't east mesa, more north mesa.

Area is hit or miss, borderline sketchy at best. Crappy trailer parks and rundown neighborhoods with some really nice areas mixed in.

That area isn't the greatest. Did you get a place yet? The rental market here is pretty crazy and places get rented as soon as they are listed.

And if you haven't gotten a place yet, I would recommend NE Mesa, and it still would be about 15 min. from your job. My husband & I live near Power & McDowell - the area is nice, quiet and very safe with lots of stores around. Plus it's 5 min. from the 202 and it takes about 20 min. to get to the airport.

Good luck in your search!

I didn't get a place yet. It's called Sonora canyon. The apartments look nice and the price is right.. just sounds like area is hit and miss
