Great question, CactusLand . . .

Also, considering the importance of a clean / clear windshield, especially during "less than perfect" weather conditions . . . why would anyone compromise quality and efficiency to save what is probably less than a dollar a month overall?

The cheap Walmart blades I bought a year ago are still perfect!

I buy the cheap wiper blades and always have. Out here I use them far less than I did when I lived in MI, IL and PA. They last a few years for me. Rubber does breakdown and tear but I seldom ever need them.

Yes, the things that make rubber age are oxygen, UV rays, and wear. This is also why you will see covers placed over RV & trailer tires for protection during storage. If you can keep the car in a garage or the shade, it will be a benefit. If you don't, I would think a better quality wiper should be worth it and would typically last longer.

Don't you ever use your windshield washers when driving? I use 'em constantly to clear bird splats and bug guts...

What I am cleaning off the most often is dust, which I can remove using the wiper blades dry. rarely have issues with bug guts or bird poop.

You know you're micro scratching your windshield by doing that right?
