The highest end Trane units use two compressors. A larger and smaller compressor. The units will run almost non stop on the smaller one and switch to the larger one when it has to. It results in constant air movement and excellent dehumidification. These are extremely efficient but very expensive systems. I have wondered if you could do this with a ground source option with your refrigerant exchanging heat with the earth.

yep, those cold blast drafts are gone, and its nice because this time of year, when you dont really need you air "conditioned", there is a "circulate" setting on my system, that turns the blower on for 30 minutes every hour; no cold ac blasts when it does, but, air circulates, and if you need a little cooling,(or heating I assume in the winter), the system provides for that as well..
We absolutely love this system so far; we got in in September, and there were all sorts of rebates going on, plus 5 years of zero interest, so it was tough to beat!

Why would the ground source option prevent this type of technology? I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. But both technologies are "upper end", usually installed in very large luxury homes.
