Default Do any "towns" actually have a downtown area?

Is there a downtown Surprise, Gilbert, Peoria, Glendale, Chandler? I've been to the Old Town area of Scottsdale but didn't get to check out the other areas. Is there a place with a real Main Street feel in the Phoenix area? I believe some of the new developments try to do that. Besides the cities which developments off a nice community center?

There is a down town area of Gilbert. It's about a two block area between Guadalupe and Elliot on Gilbert Rd. It is sort of a preserved old town. It has a few restaurants, a theater, a barber shop, and a couple of stores.

What about the Desert Ridge area?

Not sure about D.R, but Glendale has a very cute, old fashioned downtown area. I am making a point of trying the German restaurant soon.

Downtown Phoenix, downtown Tempe, and downtown Scottsdale are the most obvious downtowns. Next on the list to see would be downtown Mesa. Downtown Gilbert is pretty neat, but as Captain Bill said, it's only 2 blocks. Downtown Glendale exists and but is only 2 or 3 blocks; a few antique stores, but not much else there. Occasionally I hear people speak about a "downtown Chandler" but everytime I've been to that area (Arizona Ave between Ray & Pecos), I'm always asking myself, "What Downtown"? And that's pretty much it for the Phoenix metro area. Small town downtowns not too far from Phoenix include Casa Grande, Wickenburg, and Prescott. Superior and Globe, old mining towns, have OLD downtowns with architecture straight out of an old western movie, but those towns practically look like ghosttowns to me.

I think Glendale has one of the best downtowns in the Valley. Take a trip down there and check out Hausmurphy's for some beer and food.

I think downtown Glendale is a quaint little place. It seemed more small townish than anywhere else I've been in the valley.

Desert Ridge is just a shopping area, so I wouldn't consider that a downtown feel at all.

You'd be surprised what people around here consider a "downtown" area.
I've heard people refer to not only Desert Ridge as downtown...but also 24th and Camelback, the Biltmore Fashion Park, as downtown.

There must be a ton of people who have never been to a large city with a real downtown or even to Phoenix's downtown who think just because it doesn't look like a strip mall with a sea of parking spaces....it must be a downtown.
