Yes, they can.

But, here is what is going to happen: You get stopped by an officer one day - they run your license and find it suspended. Now, you are arrested, booked, jailed for driving on a suspended license. After your release, you hire a lawyer (you will need a 5 to 10,000 retainer) who finds out about the default judgment and the failure to appear and contest. He files a motion to set aside - court date for that is some 6 months down the road.

Meanwhile, you are unable to drive lawfully because you are awaiting trial on the driving on a suspended license charge -

Etc, Etc, Etc

It would have been much better, and cheaper to appear and contest the original ticket don't you think????

I'm not in AZ yet, but we have the cameras here too. I would pay the ticket and be done with it. Although I'm usually one who fights back when I know I haven't done anything wrong, I found that with traffic tickets, it's better to just pay it and take the class than fight it.

I was stopped by a cop using a regular radar gun. He was pulling over two cars at a time, having them wait, and pulling over 2 more cars. Total of 4 cars parked waiting for tickets each time. He was sitting on the side of a hill after coming out of a winding underpass. I was not speeding. The way this underpass is, there's no way to go fast, and unless you have some super horsepower going for you, it's very difficult to get any speed going up that hill afterwards. There is no way my car could go through that underpass and get up to the speed he said I was doing going up the hill. I invited the cop to take my car and try to do what he said I did. I knew it couldn't be done. He didn't take me up on my offer.

Anyway, I was furious. I had never had a speeding ticket before and was all set to fight it, because I knew I was in the right, and I wasn't about to plead guilty to something I didn't do.

Went to court, and it was standing room only. All those people had been pulled over by this one cop that day. Almost everyone had the same attitude as me, fight it because it was wrong. I was one of the last ones that day and watched everyone fight it and lose. That judge believed the cop in every instance. At that point I figured fighting it out of principle was a lost cause. So I lied and said I was guilty and took the class so that it wouldn't affect my insurance.

It really sucks when admitting guilt when you're not guilty is the lesser of two evils, because you don't stand a chance in hell proving your innocence against a corrupt system.

BOSISLEDFOOT is on a distinguished road
My boss is a speed demon and now wants me to magically make his 2 most recent photo radar tickets "go away." If I have called the 2 traffic schools and given them info about one of his tickets to request eligibility to attend is that an acknowledgment in the courts eyes of having rcvd the tickets?

Here is proof that they throw out the tickets if you have not been "served".

This is a copy and paste from a friends ticket found at Arizona supreme courts web site.

The sad thing is if the guy wouldn't have flipped off the camera and tried to rub it in, he might have gotten away with it. Typical meathead! It's bad enough that he alters the numbers on his license plate but then he has to flip off the camera in defiance as well. Yeah that's real smart.

Hahahahaha! I thought the same thing! What a chump, not only committing a crime but proverbially thumbing his nose at law enforcement. If I were the cop in charge of the photo radar tickets I would work through my lunch or my break to figure out who it was and nab him. What a chump!

Presuming you're responding to me, I never said otherwise. But to make you happy I'll restate it:

If I were in charge of the photo radar tickets I and I found somebody flaunting the law in such an insulting way I would work through my lunch or my break to figure out who it was and nab the person doing that.

Happy now?

I agree with Sablebaby. If you did the deal, pay the ticket. Learn your lesson and don't speed again. It's very simple.

You have to get used to living in a police state. "Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
