I see a lot less panhandlers on streets, intersections and on-ramps. First I thought it was the summer heat that maybe drove them to milder climates like on the West Coast. But even now that temperatures are ambient I have not seen an uptick in North Phoenix along the usual places. Also I see a lot less trash that they would typically leave behind along the paths I ride my bicycle on. I wonder what happened? Did they permanently relocate to Southern California? - When we went to Disneyland in the fall I took a ride there and within I would say 5 miles of Disneyland in Anaheim there was a park where there must have been thousands homeless camped out. I had never seen anything like this before.
Edit: this article also includes one example (ok, only one!): "Victor Gutierrez, who roamed Arizona for 12 years, is now transitioning [in Anaheim] from the streets to sleeping in an old car."

There's the usual number of panhandlers in the west valley, around Dysart & I-10.

Interesting. I've heard people complaining that there are more than ever downtown. Personally, I haven't noticed much change from other years.

FWIW, here's an interesting article on the practice in some cities of buying the homeless bus tickets to somewhere else. Phoenix shows up in some of the graphics as one of the destinations that the homeless choose when bussed out of other cities:

Sorry to see them go. Oh well......I guess Arizona's loss is California's gain. <sniff sniff>

Is the experience in other city areas really that different? I see none on the intersections / on ramps where there were multiple panhandlers on each place last year. I got some to push the light signals for me ;-)

Because it is colder and they are probably sleeping at the shelters downtown.

Still see them around the usual haunts with the exception of 7th Ave & I-10. Noticeably absent from there as of late.

Some places I have to take the sidewalk with my bicycle because the roads are too dangerous. When they were sitting at the intersections I would always ask them to push the button to get green. Two guys did it as soon as they saw me approach, so we had friendly relations. The trash along the way, however...
