In fact, the AZ bark scorpion has direct relatives in Mexico that are responsible for hundreds of deaths annually. Alot of that pertains to bad medical care and lack of AV, but it just goes to show how potent their venom can be and how damaging it can be if left unchecked.
Yes! It is amazing what those little suckers can do. Boy did it hurt. I have a very high tolerance for pain and I was very annoyed at the stinging burning pain that I endured for hours. The numbness for 48 hours was even more disturbing.

The lack of critters (scorpions) this year so far is a bit surprising. Even my buddies at work who see them every week or so, haven't seen any inside yet. I would think with the bumper crop of weeds this year, they would be all over. Are they all waiting, conspiring, to form an army and come inside en masse later on this year?

Steve-o, you're too sensitive. I don't think it's people not liking you, most like you, and some love you. It's the way you occasionaly seem to interpret some of these insect situations that are scary to people, especially newcomers or those planning to move here. Most people living here do not find insects or critters to be a problem, much less a serious one.
If you live on the edges of towns, or in newly developed subdivisions, yes you'll see an increase in insect/critter activity for awhile. But we have exterminator services to help you manage/eliminate those problems, plus there is the common sense factor no matter where you live.
This old adage still applies, "watch out for the wild humanoids on the roads here".

I have been having them in my house for the past few months. I have no idea why they are here, I guess they think they live here now.

There aren't a lot of insects in Phoenix compared to back east, really.... Roaches and crickets maybe, just make sure your home is sprayed regularly. I run into black widow spiders outdoors in the summer occaisionally, but not indoors. Scorpions generally limit themselves to newer homes built on desert areas: if you happen to move in to such a place, you can hunt them down using a blacklight (they'll glow). There aren't a lot of mosquitos unless you live near an agricultural area with irrigation.

In early fall there is an outbreak of ants, everywhere, but it goes away after a few weeks. In early summer there is always an outbreak of mud daubers which build mud huts on the side of stucco houses -- they look like wasps, but they're harmless. Every 5-10 years or there are whiteflies in the summer, but they're only after your plants.

But do watch out for bees! Killer bees are rare but deadly -- call an exterminator if you see a bee hive and don't risk dealing with them yourself.

I have been suprised by the mosquitos. When we lived in El Paso, TX and Sierra Vista, AZ, I don't remember seeing mosquitos. I think we have more here than the East Coast.

That's odd, I wonder if you have a green pool on the block.
