This is exactly why the South Mountain Freeway is a bad idea that will only encourage more driving and more sprawl.

Given the choice between Peoria or Peoria, I'd take Peoria.

Depending on how traffic is after it opens, the south mountain freeway could make jobs in Chandler much more accessible for people in the southwest valley like in Goodyear and Avondale.

I'd go with Chandler. The commute isn't going to be great either way, but as a previous reply stated, the I-10 eastbound in the morning is a parking lot and has wrecks almost daily.

The East valley is just a nicer area of Phoenix metro. I've lived in Chandler and South Tempe since I arrived here in 81. Chandler is desirable because the schools are supposed to be better. My kids are adults so I assume that is true but I can't speak from recent experience. I can say that there is a reason it costs more to buy a home in the East valley than it does the west side of Phoenix metro. Better schools, better city services, restaurants, event venues, and lastly, demographics.

There is crime in every city, but the Westside cities have much more of it. Watch local news for 7 days a see where most of the crime happens and who's committing those crimes. There are sketchy areas in the East valley too, but there are more good areas where you want a family and usually home prices reflect the more desirable areas.
