Note that the "diverse" city of Chandler isn't the best city for public transit; it ranks sixth in total ridership behind Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Scottsdale, and Glendale (Yes, Scottsdale has higher ridership than Glendale, although I think Glendale has higher ridership per capita).

When I moved here in 2001, only Phoenix and Tempe had 7 day bus service, and Gilbert didn't even have Saturday service on its whole 2 buslines (108&136)

My evening was at Hon Machi Japanese enjoying sushi and teppanyaki with the family, then a bottle of red wine by the pool shared with the wife. Terrible, I know.

I just find it interesting that the people that speak loudest about the suburbs having no nightlife compared to wherever they live, are the very people posting here on Friday and Saturday night And it's not just you.
Uber still involves someone driving a car

I'm not automobile averse. I've always been into cars so driving a mile or two is not something I even care a little bit about, especially in the suburbs where there's less traffic and buses

I think cities like New York and Chicago are engineered the best, but they have crappy weather, otherwise I'd probably live in one of those two cities if I didn't care about cold, snow or humidity. You really can live a normal life without a car in both of them

Practically speaking, no matter where you live in the Phoenix metro (or even almost any city in the states for that matter), you'll need a car. Just the way it's zoned, the road network is designed, how sprawly everything is, if you don't need a car for day to day living, chances are you'll know someone or want to go somewhere where you cannot get to the destination unless you have a car or you have a ton of time to kill if you want to take public transit or you blow money like crazy with uber rides/rentals.

Most cities in America aren't built and designed to function like NYC or San Francisco.

So even though you might forgo using the car to go x and y place, chances are, you'll need a car to visit a, b, c, d, e, etc... place (if you favor the quick and easy route that is).

I'm guessing at that time the 156 (Chandler/Williams Field) ended at Gilbert Road, is that correct? It now ends at ASU Poly and runs 7 days a week.
