The vibe of Casa Grande
I was wondering if someone could tell me what the vibe is like in Casa Grande. By that, I mean the overall atmosphere. From the research I have done, it seems to be a more layed back small town atmosphere, but growing. Is that correct? Is it a family oriented place? Where I live now they have town block parties, a fall parade and many other family type activities. Does Casa Grande have those kinds of things?

Casa Grande was primarly a retirement/snow bird city, which now also has thousands & thousands of new houses that were built during the recent housing boom. The estimated population is now around 35,000. Most of the people living in the new houses tend to be family oriented people, as opposed to singles, with the majority commuting to Phoenix for work. But they also tend to keep to themselves -- meaning you usually only see them when they are coming or going. After that, the garage door closes and that's it.
I have never seen a block party here, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. There are a few festival type of celebrations done by the City itself as well.

Living near Casa Grande, I can tell you, I have never seen grocery stores more packed.
Cant move around in there! In Mesa I always went to Safeway, and it was never crowded. The one here, it can be Wednesday afternoon , and that place is crowded and frustrating, lol Mabey when the snowbirds leave, it won't be as bad. Havn't been in this area long enough to know yet.

I perform shows in Casa Grande and I really like the place. It's got a mixture of the original town and its small-town inhabitants, mixed with a large winter retiree population, mixed with lots of newcomers. It has the basic retail and other amenities of a city now, but still a lot of places with the older town atmosphere. Many people do keep to themselves, but there is an annual electric light parade and some arts events in the historic downtown area. If you do move to CG, you should check out the restored historic Paramount Theatre which has a lot of family-friendly shows.
In the negative, the town does have some crime/drug problems and I've heard rumors of the schools being overwhelmed by all the people moving in.
