This is good advice, OP. Especially about renting and the condo part. Why do you need a SFH?

I’d stay south of broadway (avoid the college parties) and would avoid going east of McClintock (some areas are dicey near the 101). Id also not try to be too close to Arizona Mills or Guadalupe.

North of the 60 has a pseudo urban feel with great transit and lots of greenery. South of the 60 is an above average suburb with an educated population and good schools. Either is good for a single guy your age. Chandler near their Downtown area or Chandler Fashion Center is similar to South Tempe. IMO Tempe and Chandler are two of the best run cities in the state.

I’m partial to southern central Tempe (broadmor area) it’s one of my favorite areas of town. Great community feel and urban but with space and suburban style non cookie cutter housing.

There are great pockets near the botanical gardens. Probably among best locations in the metro, but you have to deal with airport noise.

I do look at it as good advice but at the same time. I'm 30, I want a house and see that prices anywhere desirable seem to keep going up and up. I don't want to wait a few years and then be stuck without any good options. Plus if I'm renting I'm not putting money into something and would get equity out of a home if I decided to sell. Plus I need more space than most apartments that would be less than the cost of a home and I like the option of having a garage and close parking. Plus I need more than one spot if I get a motorcycle while I'm down there.
