Over the past several months, I have been getting texts asking if I want to sell my house in Maricopa County. Each one has a different phone #. each message has a different message. My wife has gotten a couple as well (again, a different phone # and message each time).

Today, I got this one which is pretty typical:
Exact words:
"Hi (and my actual 1st name)! My name is Alex, Im a local home buyer reaching out to see if you're interested in an offer for your home on (my actual address)? Thx

I refuse to text back. But a couple of times, I called with my Google Phone # (same phone but with a hidden #) and got a vmail message asking to leave my name and address. I left out the address but gave my google, non-traceable #) and said that I wanted to sell my property". No response....

I googled the number that came in on the text just today which is 480-531-6397. Another time from 623-295-0692 (he was "looking to buy a house in our neighborhood"). There are other phone #'s. I'm not alone with the 623 extension https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-623-295-0692

Does anybody know what their scam might be? People who have called or texted back haven't gotten a call back. Something smells fishy.

I've gotten a few of those. I just chalked it up to the hot real estate market hereabouts.

Somewhere online your phone number is linked to your name and street address. Try googling your own number to see where they are getting the information

I've been getting cold calls from brokers for a few months now. I act dumb and ask all kinds of questions, and then finish with "I'm just a renter, is it still ok to sell this house"?
I've had to "dial for dollars" in the past and I know it sucks. But, cold calling to get someone to leave their home to me is lower than all those Indian guys combined calling to get me to sign up for solar/end of life insurance/contractor referrals/etc.

My cell # is all over the place. But it is often linked to my MN business address. My wife who has also gotten a couple of these texts, goes to extreme lengths not to have her cell listed anywhere possible. When I google hers, nothing comes up.

If it was Maracopa county, MAYBE they have my cell is listed but not my wives. Both of our #'s are with the HOA. I will say that in the past, my email has gotten on real estate agents database pimping me that were volunteers. I complained (and others did as well) and it stopped.

As I mentioned earlier, I called and left a message. I gave them a phone #; which is intentionally cryptic without being traceable back to me. What I find strange is the vmails said "call me back, I want to sell" and they didn't return the call.

Inquiring minds want to know..

Yeah, but I showed them. I offered them three homes I don't even own.

I got ANOTHER one today. This one from 928-851-4639. It seems I am not alone (see https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-928-851-3539 ) The number has other scams as well. Someone local sold my info. I'd love to find out who.

It's not a "scam" just investors looking for properties to buy on the cheap. Shotgun approach, you send it to 5,000 people, you are bound to get a few bites and make a few bucks. Bad part is you annoyed 4997 other people in the process.

You can try the do not call list, as that applies to texting also, but only some of them actually reference the list, plus it gets sent from bogus/generic numbers so to track it down is hardly worth your time.

Text advertisement is like email spam 15 years ago, I would expect to get a LOT more of it from a lot more types of businesses that will slowly get on board over the next few years. Texting has an exponentially higher rate and faster response than email these days.
