Default Watch out Phoenix,I'm coming

I could not pass up $310. for a trip to Phoenix. I posted awhile back about moving out and this is the first step towards making that move.
Should I be concerned for my safety staying at the Super 8 motel on N. Black Canyon Hwy?
Can I realistically expect to find a one bedroom apartment in a "decent" area of town for around $500. a month? I figured I could find someplace small to start out and get comfortable with the area and maybe find something bigger once I am situated.
I am 37, the party scene is not my thing,I would like to find something in a quiet end of town. I know,I know doesn't everyone...
You folks have been very kind in the past with my questions and I appreciate it very much.
Thanks
Bucksfan

$310? Drive up to Minneapolis. We've got $211 right now. Of course, you'd spend $100 in gas...

Find a one bedroom in a decent area for $500/month? NO. Not in a decent area by the standards here. Up it to $650 and we're talking. I wouldn't live in one that cost under $750 - but that's me.

I agree with her, from my own search too, any single bedroom apartment under $750 is either a decent apartment in a crappy location or a crappy apartment in a decent location. When you go $750/month or more, things start to look prettier. My current apartment is $800 /month ($50 for the garage) and it is a nice apartment in a decent part of town (North of Cactus by 51 freeway, close to everything).

Of course a major concern is the commute, if I am renting, I try to find a centralized location where commuting wouldn't take more than 20mins.
Also recommend using one of those walk-in, free apartment locator services.
They often get discounts from apartments that you couldn't on your own.

601 S. Alma School Rd.
Mesa, Arizona 85210

Would this area be a decent place to start looking?
Now I have to put my nose to the grindstone and find some places to hit while I am out there.
BTW, are there any people on this board who deliver for a living? I'm would love to find someone who delivers bread or potato(e) chips or some route based job on this board to bounce questions off of.
Thanks,
Bucksfan

I just put this in another post. I just looked for Gilbert with a 10 mile radius that picks up some Chandler, $500-$1000 and open on bed/bath.

Gilbert, AZ Rentals on Yahoo! Real Estate: 11-20 of 127 listings

Congrats!
I am from Cleveland...lived in Columbus...bucks fan too
My girlfriend and I are planning on moving to the chandler/gilbert area in Sept. I just got a ticket for $219 and im going out memorial week/weekend to narrow down our apartment search. The plan is to go back out in July (w/ the g/f)and sign a lease. We are looking to spend no more than $950 a month rent. We need a 2bedroom...need more space. But from my research so far i think you will have some trouble in the $500 range. Things cost a little more out there compared to Ohio. You might find something in that range but it might be in a bad part of town and super tiny. Do you have any idea where around Phoenix your looking to live?

I managed to score 3 nights hotel+rental Car+Flight out and back for $310
I have no idea where in Phoenix I want to live. Man more than anything else I would love to find something nice and quiet. I can live with a tiny place for 6 months or so,I can always hunt around once I am out there and find something else.
I want to try and find a job in delivery/Route Sales. I have 10+ years working for a bread company and feel confident I can score a like job out there.
Frito-Lay has been in contact with me,hopefully something will pan out.
I could go on and on with a million questions.
Thanks for responding and good luck with your search.

Best way to truly figure it all out is doing what we are...
just get out there and look.
It's a huge city...so there is a ton to learn about.
Just go with your gut feeling and everything should pan out fine.
