I definitely don't have a green thumb, so I need help with finding some plants that do well in containers in the Phoenix heat and are also pretty resilient to general neglect, lol. I'm going to be in a first floor apartment, so I'm looking for some plants to put in containers along my patio wall to add some privacy. Suggestions for both the plants and for places to buy them would be very welcome!

You can pretty much grow anything in containers here. I have a full container garden multiple varieties of tomatoes, peppers, herbs, broccoli, cauliflower, corn, Brussel sprouts, lettuce, snap peas, eggplant, carrots, onion, Swiss chard.

I use 5 gallon fabric pots since Terra cotta and plastic get hot in the late spring / summer and will burn the roots.

Bougainvillea are pretty hard to kill, and they are pretty and bloom all year. I have several and I pretty much ignore them, never water, etc, just trim them back now and then. The only thing that seemed to be an issue was the outer lengths of branches got zapped with the freeze earlier this winter, but I just trimmed that off (needed trimming anyway). You can grow them in pots and add a trellis to a large pot which would offer some privacy.

I don't think I've ever seen fabric pots. Where does one buy them?

A co-worker has quite a few containers of Pride of Barbados, and she swears they're next to impossible to kill, and the gorgeous yellow/orange/red flowers go for months and months.

Elephant Food is a great container plant, as well as a ground plant, here in the Phoenix area. It is native to Africa and yes, elephants really do eat it. It looks quite similar to a Jade plant but is a little different. You can usually find it at the Home Depot in the garden dept., or you can root it from a friend's plant. It stays green year round, although I would probably bring it inside if there will be a heavy frost.
