Coming from CA, the CHP there usually allows you a good 10mph over, at least 5mph for sure.

I've been in other states where even 2-3 over can get you cited.

What's the deal here in Phoenix area, Scottsdale, rest of AZ ?

At 65mph I seem to be pretty much the slowest driver on 51 or 101 ... ?

Thanks.

Generally 10 - you won't get a ticket even from a speed cam unless you are 11 over. But they don't have to. Exceptions are school zones where there is zero tolerance.

On the 101 Loop, no matter how fast you go you’re always going to be slower than somebody else. The people who are determined to “win” will make sure of that.

I see very little traffic enforcement.

Get your AZ plates as soon as possible. A few jerks take it upon themselves to harass Californians.

On the freeways you pretty much have to be going 100 to be in the HOV or left lane and not be a danger to others. Police seem very lax on speeding in my own personal experience.

Don't sit in the left lane...that is for passing. 10 over is okay for the most part...just don't be driving erratically. The HOV lane is only part time...during morning rush hour and evening...otherwise it is the left lane. If you don't want someone riding your tail, 74/75 in the middle lane unless you want to pass and everyone is happy. As you are driving around you will notice people flying through traffic (they tend to stay on the left) and some doing exactly the speed limit almost causing accidents as the flow of traffic has to go around them. Stay out of the right lane unless you are getting off or coming on the freeway...lots of accidents happen in the merge lanes. Having learned to drive and lived in AZ for the past 31 years...if you aren't going 5-10 over you are going too slow.

I'll do that when my stupid-expensive CA registration is close to expiring. Until then, I've become very Zen-like in how I handle idiots in traffic... I use cruise control, match traffic ahead of me, and let jackwagons go ahead and cut in front of me to rush off somewhere else. Go ahead and flash your lights behind me because there's a little breathing room in front... I don't care.

Interestingly, WalletHub ranks Arizona third place on strictest on speeding and reckless driving (tied with New Mexico):

I’ve been passed by cops doing 75-80 on I10. Even they speed. Just don’t be erratic, use the left lane for passing, don’t travel in a merge lane, and don’t speed up so people can’t pass you.

Arizona has recently designated "safety corridors." These are areas targeted for zero tolerance enforcement of traffic laws based on historic patterns of crashes in those zones.

Outside these corridors, enforcement is more permissive.
