Amazon announced a third round of price cuts for Whole Foods on Monday and not just for Prime shoppers. They are struggling to attract customers apparently. Keep up. It's really not surprising their deals for Prime flopped. Prime shoppers are bargain hunters almost by definition. Why would they go to Whole Foods and overpay? They are more of a Costco crowd. I think there is a Costco in Surprise. Along with Sprouts (and Winco, of course) what need would they have for WF?

I’d like to see WF and others on the west side. It’ll be one of the last moves they make in the area, as the demographics on the west side aren’t the professional demo with disposable income, often younger or youthful mentality, that WF and other upscale venues want to see before taking the risk of entering the market.

There is a Sams Club in Surprise along with Sprouts and Trader Joes. No Costco in Surprise.

I'm not a WF shopper, despite fitting squarely in their demographic. But go there 3-4 times a year to look around and pick up the odd item I've never seen elsewhere. But after this display from an employee I pretty much stopped going altogether.

Right after Amazon bought WF the store ran one of its first promotions to bring in Prime members into the store. Forget the exact promotion, but something like half off an arrangement of roses. Being a dutiful husband wanting to impress his wife and given the opportunity to snag roses at a discount I hustled on down to the WF off of Camelback. Apparently I wasn't the only husband with the same idea and there was a crowd of 5-6 of us milling around the flower department looking for roses. The employee on duty came over, looked at all of of us, rolled her eyes dramatically and sneered "you must all be here for the Amazon promotion, we're out of flowers". Then stomped off shaking her head and muttering something about the new type of shoppers Amazon was bringing in to a coworker.

I'll believe that when it's possible to actually walk through the doors. But hey, I'm a skeptic at heart.

Just mentioning "Is there really no Whole Foods in the Surprise area?" conjures up images of South Park.

That's understandable since Costco was set to build in 2008. However the real estate team was here in November 2018 and it's a go.

Has this actually been announced or is it just rumor at this point?

Mike Dobrota, a vice president for the real estate company that manages Costco location (Northwest Atlantic) announced last February that Costco is moving forward with a project in Surprise. People I know who work in planning for the city of Surprise say the deal isn’t finalised yet but they are moving ahead and have chosen a location (Waddell & Sarival by the 303) and are hoping to open the end of 2020. Since they are now actively working with the city it looks like our Costco is finally coming!
