Hi there. I’m anticipating having to commute to the VA Med Center and Brophy downtown. I will be living near the intersection of Glendale Ave and El Mirage Rd (not far from Luke AFB). Google maps shows two routes, one that is 101 to I-10. The other route takes me from Glendale Rd to AZ 60, which I believe is Grand Ave. Can anyone give me some details on AZ 60, such as traffic patterns, traffic congestion, traffic lights? The Grand Ave route is 4 miles less than the other route, but I realize it could generally take longer. Thank you!

If you are coming/going that way during peak hours I would avoid the 10 at all costs. Glendale to grand to Indian school would be the route I would take. That isn't going to be a fun commute any way you go but some drive much farther.

What are your commuting hours? I'm very familiar with I-10 from that area

The worst stretch of Grand Ave is from 7th Ave(Van Buren) thru 19th Ave(McDowell). But it sounds like you won't need to take it that far so you should be good.

The worst stretch of Grand Avenue is Grand Avenue itself. ADOT installed overpasses in the last decade at most major intersections, but the problem is most of those overpasses relieve traffic on the intersecting streets. As a result, the traffic lights on Grand are still long, and the delays are seemingly never ending. Just as bad is fact that most of Grand Avenue is an eyesore from downtown Phoenix all the way through Glendale & Peoria. Nothing much except run down buildings, seedy clubs, and industrial sites.

Dollar bud night at Mr Lucky was good...I recall certain intersection s taking more than 10 minutes to get through, with complications from trains...been a while. There are many ways to get from Glendale to IS.

Brophy and VA Med Center aren't exactly "downtown". They are north of downtown, more like Midtown. That said, there is really no easy way to get there from where you're coming from. I'd say you just might have to experiment and see which major arterials are least congested at the times you'd be coming and going. Not sure if Grand is going to be the best way.

Glendale to Grand runs pretty good. A lot better than Indian school in the morning. I would take glendale to Grand and run it down to Indian school or take Glendale to Grand to Camelback and then drop down off of Central. You definitely don't want to take the 101 down to the I-10. Way too much traffic.
