I think you've just described the entire West. In general we're a bit more tolerant and accepting and think more of "do your own thing" than people in the South and Northeast.

Did it ever occur to you that Arizona is 4 percent Black, Phoenix 5 percent Black, and maybe there isn't much demand for Black history? And why should we have a holiday for MLK? There's too damned many holidays already, too many excuses to shut the schools and city offices down when the kids should be learning and government employees taking care of the business of the taxpayers.

I think it really all comes down to the fact that since I am presumably more intelligent than my counterparts here in the Phoenix area.
I think you're just wrong, and you're over generalizing. I think most of the people really don't care what color you are and base their treatment of you on your behavior. If you've been as sanctimonious and condescending to people in real life as your were in your OP then I can fully understand why you're getting a negative reaction from the people around you.

Bottom line is that you can not expect everybody to like you, but you better respect me. Cause it is not fun being condescending and when you peeps say you feel sorry for me, ...

I do not care if people do not like me, but to you Phoenicians out there if you do not respect me I will show you the same kind of disrespect in a manner in which you will remember for a long time .
There you go again. I've been reading this thread and I haven't seen a single case of anybody insulting you. There have been some rather acerbic observations about you and I'm sure you didn't enjoy reading them, but I believe you fully deserve every criticism you've received.

You seem to believe you're smarter than everybody, yet you don't understand people well enough to get along with them without offending them. When you characterize yourself as being smarter than the rest of us, you're characterizing us as being dumber than you. Whether it's true or not you're certainly not being diplomatic.

You say that you don't care if people like you. Once again you're dropping clues as to what the real problem is. Maybe if you cared about people you might be a bit more empathetic and sympathetic. Maybe your real problem is that you project an aura of hostility and arrogance.

You also seem to not understand that respect is not given; it is earned. You're all ready to show disrespect to everybody now. Do you really think that's going to gain you anything except more negative reaction from the people around you?

It seems to me that the biggest problem with the people around you is you yourself. If your conduct in this forum is any indication of how you behave in real life, then you've got an attitude problem and you won't ever get along with people until you have an attitude adjustment.

Another in agreement with me. Yep!

Dating white women is nothing, you get stares everywhere you go or if you do something out of the ordinary. I had a relationship with a white girl in Kansas and a white girl from Iowa. Analyze your situation a little more and it is not really about race, more of the intelligence that I have a problem with. People here are not smart, and they let things be because they do not know what they want to do or say. The likelihood of them ever meeting a black person is slim. They are vague and keep to themselves here.
Perhaps the people are more intelligent than you think. I think everybody on CD has already got your number. You don't get along with people and blame it on everybody else. People don't do what you want them to so you fault them for their intelligence. I think it's more like people don't want to do what you want them to and it's YOUR intelligence to blame, for an inability or lack of effort to understand people and get along with them.

For the record, my cousin in Tempe is a White man married to a Black woman with biracial children and I've never heard any complaints about prejudice or intolerance from their family. They've since divorced but not for reasons of race. I don't believe your accusations of racial prejudice.

People of education and intelligence just naturally write things that are grammatically correct. Of course they make typographic errors, but anybody with a good education, for example, instead of typing "im not going to proofread everything i say" they'd type "I'm not going to proofread everything I say." Educated people don't just forget proper capitalization and punctuation. You're making grammatical mistakes, not typographical mistakes.

I'm not busting you for typographic mistakes. I'm busting you for a lack of being truthful to yourself about your intelligence. Either that or you just don't give a damn about appearances. Sloppy, sloppy. Just like your regard for getting along with the people around you. Probably sloppy there too.

You seem to be one clue short of a full understanding there podner. I think you may have left out New Mexico!

Let's not start slurring Texas now. There's nothin' wrong about Texas and no reason to bring them into this discussion.

It's not just Arizona. Arizona can't be any worse than Los Angeles. Actually I think part of the problem in America's schools is the students themselves, and their parents, and the other part of the problem is that American values have slipped.

It's been an interesting debate, and in some ways almost a psychoanalysis. I hope the OP will take some of the criticisms to heart and realize that in any human interaction each party must do have of the work in getting along. I believe the OP has not been doing his own fair share.

Lovehound,

How can you have a conversation with someone who claims Phoenix is a dumb city/area? It doesn't lead anywhere. Obviously out of 4 million people living in the valley somebody must be equal to his intellect. I certainly hope so, how can his talented brain go to waste?

To be honest, I'm rather enjoying the challenge of making an honest attempt to help a rather unlikable person. It would be too easy to just blow him off and return the insults and hostility and turn this into another of those troll vs. "feeding the troll" discussions, which wouldn't do anybody any good.

And also, I rather enjoy writing, composition and debate, and I've got plenty of spare time being I'm between jobs and retirement and not a lot else to do today. 'Work' is a four letter word.

Is it possible that we are trying to prove him wrong through eloquent words and diplomatic communication?

No need to prove him wrong. Wrong is as wrong does. If it dawns on him why he's wrong he'll be all better. Might even make some friends.

This thread still has a few interesting turns and twists left to it before it ends. You understand, don't you, that there's been a beginning and there's been a middle, but we haven't had the end yet, right?

The best part of all is that it's been a polite and well mannered discussion. And I believe that we're making progress too. I can already see the ending. What I can't tell is whether it's a happy ending or a sad ending. That's up to the OP.

Hey, if it is not this dumb.ss thread, it'd be another!
After all, it is obvious that none of us have anything better to waste our precious time on hence the fact that we continue to come back and drag these mindless topics on and on much like crack addicts...

I have no tolerance for threats, even vague threats directed at the entire metropolitan area. Gangbangers, lowlifes and sociopaths like Charles Whitman "demand" respect through violence or threats and intimidation. I am not saying the OP falls into one of these categories, but it isn't even an issue for average people with a sense of self worth, people who realize the world doesn't revolve around them. Most people are content with simply being treated fairly by others. As Lovehound, Artliquide and others have stated, RESPECT is EARNED. Demanding it only guarantees you won't get it. I have more respect for what my dogs leave in the yard than I do for anyone who would try to intimidate or threaten me.

I stand by my earlier assessment that the OP is a troll. This definition is so precise it could have been written specifically for him. Troll (Internet) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
