Hi everyone,
I would appreciate your help. I am about to begin the job search process as a rising third year law student at a law school in Cleveland, Ohio. My girlfriend and I are positive that we want to move out of this frigid cold. Phoenix is looking like the most viable option, since I have some family in Scottsdale and my girlfriend has a good friend in Phoenix proper. I was wondering what your opinions of the current legal market are in Phoenix. I am also curious about the frequent discussion of crime on this board. I will be moving with an infant daughter, and I am worried to pick a city that is growing in its crime rate. Are the various local governments in the Valley doing anything to solve this problem? If so, what? Is it a valid concern to have? Mainly, I see worries of crime, but I also know that Cleveland's violent crime rate is about 4 times that of Phoenix. I lived in a neighborhood last year that is frequently on the news for murder-this or drug bust-that. Nonetheless, having a child is changing things. Thanks for your help in advance, and sorry for the long-winded post. |

I'm in the same boat - a 3L from an out of state law school (Seattle), soon to be looking for a job in Phoenix. So, I'm curious to hear some feedback on this subject as well. I'm guessing it will be a bit more challenging coming from an out of state law school and competing with in-state grads that are linked into the network.
How do you plan to go about your job search? My law school has an online job search for alumni, so I plan to start there. Also, is there a specific practice area you're interested in? I suppose that could make a difference as well. |

Here's a possible idea. There are many HOA's in the Phoenix area, and they are continuing to flourish. That requires many attorneys specializing in real estate law and more specifically HOA law.
There are some attorneys who specialize in representing homeowners against HOA's, and some who only represent HOA'. Additionally, there are agents who specialize in real estate in general, but not necessarily HOA issues. |

Several topics here, but I've lived here for 20 years and I can address all.
1. Legal climate: Opinion only: I think there is good and bad news here. Lots of law firms because ASU has a law school. Good news is that you probably could get hired at one of them. Do a search and start making some calls. 2. There are areas of very low crime...you can search the city websites and get info and stats. 3. It's a great city, there's alot to do. I raised my kids here. Live close to work, the traffic gets tiresome. 4. I'm in real estate and am happy to help you with the move if you wish! |
