Default New Kitchen Upgrade: Granite

We had our granite done yesterday and I'm really liking how it came out, it changed the look of the whole kitchen in my opinion...of course the new sink/faucet helped too.

We had the range "sunk in" to the level of the granite so it's one continious smooth surface which is probably my favorite feature aside from the sink.
The faucet had a pull-out feature as well as a built-in soap dispenser and an instant hot water dispenser.
We also went with no backsplash...I saw this on a few model kitchens at the Expo and really liked how it looked, it gives it a modern and clean look.

First...the before pictures...

And the new...

Yes, it does look a lot better. I'm a big fan of granite, it brings out more of your kitchen in my opinion looking at your before and after pictures. It gives a sparkle to it that wasn't there before.

I think granite is easier to clean also.

Nice! I like the granite alot too (although I ve read an article or two lately saying it is not quite as popular as it once was?), but I have a question?

In my new home, which I close on next week, the kitchen is all granite but it has the SQUARED OFF edges like yours does instead of the rounded....its not a big deal but I think I like the rounded better....I didnt have a choice as this was already installed (Im buying a model home)...is it alot more expensive to get the rounded? Or is this the more popular style now?

Price wise it's really the same, just preference and I much more prefer squared off vs any sort of rounding or design to the edge.

It looks great! Did you do a slab, or is it an overlay?

Sounds like an overlay. It looks beautiful though! Based on the photos, I'd never know the edge is laminated.

Really? I always heard that rounding (I believe it's called bullnose) is a significantly more expensive.
