That's how I feel about the summer. It's hard to beat our beautiful winters!

The pleasant winters will be what gets me through the summer I think. After this winter in TN of tornadoes and what seemed to be non stop rain I am willing to put up with a little heat this summer so that in the winter I won't sit around being depressed. I cannot handle gloomy skies anymore!

We have yet to run our air conditioner. Neighbors are falling like dominos.

The weather has been nearly perfect...
But I will admit, the air has come on already. ![]() |

I haven't turend the a/c on yet and fans are fine for now. I just moved here from VA and love this weather here. What's the highest it's been so far this year, maybe 96? I thought it was fine. I was wearing full riding gear on my bike, riding around in Sonoran Nat. Monument last weekend and felt fine. I don't use the a/c in my cars either yet. Honestly, I think it's very comfortable here. Worst thing for me is riding due west at sunset on my bike. I feel like I need a welder's mask instead of sunglasses.

Heels sinking into the asphalt? ![]() ![]() . I wouldn't doubt it. My motorcycles used to do that on the side stand. I carried a crushed soda or beer can with me to give it added support. I hate humidity, so yes I think AZ beats FL easily. The year I spent stationed in Arlington, VA at Ft. Myer wearing dress blues on day shift back in the summers of 1975-1976 almost killed me. Sweat dripping off you with no evaporation absolutely sucks. Do you have any idea how much water a wool suit holds? The dry cleaners loved us! BTW, every few years some weatherman tries to cook an egg on the sidewalk. It doesn't work. |

I feel badly for our uniformed guys and gals. My poor dad used to wear the wool for LAPD and he would suffer. At least now they can wear cotton and shorts in hot climates.

OK for people, but consider the sheep! They can't get out of it.

I have not read the other posts. I am wondering though if they have air conditioning and can afford it and it makes it irrelevant. The truth is, no one can deny in any way whatsoever that the heat in Arizona in Phoenix is more deadly than it used to be.
If you have an air conditioned home, air conditioned car, never go anywhere to speak of, and can afford it, the heat is not an issue. However, if you have a job where you have to commute on the 101 or 202 in the afternoon rush hours or the early morning rush hours it takes it's toll. Time wise and on your psyche. If you have a job coming here you have to decide what factors you will tolerate to balance the negatives of the heat and traffic. Do you want to put up with the road rage, the congestion, the nuts for drivers, everything else that has changed here and is entrenched here since I got here 37 years ago? I don't. IMHO. I won't let the door hit me on the way out. I have property in Ash Fork where, yes I will have to haul water, yes the shopping is different, yes there is no infrastructure. But I can no longer tolerate the stuff going on here. Anyone that has been affected here by not only the traffic and heat as you get older, but the invasion, knows full well what I am talking about. If you are going to live in a gated community well that alleviates some of the garbage on the streets. If you are retired and have leisure time to navigate well that's good too. I wouldn't want to subject my kids to a school system which is almost last in the country either. Not to mention SRP's rate increase of 3. 9 per cent. A monopoly. I've heard people justify and trivialize the heat. In cold country you can always put more on. In the heat here you can't take enough off, and because of this bouncing and reflecting off of a concrete jungle continuously the heat is stifling. In the prairie days sure you had hot days and even record temperatures, but the nights would cool down. Concrete doessn't cool down. That is why you will see 101 and higher temperatures at 1:00 in the morning. Ashfork is my goal. Laid back, peaceful, and not subject to overwhelming development. Pay for hauled water yes. No utility bills with solar and wind. No road rage, traffic congestion, people that are less likely to shoot you because you cut them off. Depends on what you want. My neighbors in Ashfork have looked out for each other far greater than I have ever seen in Phoenix and Mesa where neighbors hardly know neighbors. If you are thinking about the winters here neutralizing the summers I forget that. The winters are longer and warmer. It's not even a true winter by any stretch of the imagination. Weathermen in the summer and winter here have the easiest job. Hot and hotter, may cool down a few degrees, then the next day, hot and hotter, and then more of the same for the next week. Rain? It may or may not. If it doesn't rain for a while it probably won't for a while longer. Arizona weathermen for you. Fans work if the outside temperature is within a decent range. Ceiling fans, contrary to what people have been told and what they think they are doing, are not appropriate. Think of the technical aspects of a ceiling fan and what it does and you will know.
