It probably way 80 because it hasn't hit 100 yet this year.
I think the highest we've had so far is 95-96 degrees.

yeah, it wasn't 100. I think it was 98 in central phx on 14 April.
Point being, that it felt about 20 degrees cooler compared to where i'm from.

Fans will definately not do the job. I have lived in Phoenix my whole life and it is very hot from mid-May (over 100) through mid October. The summers definately need A/C not a cooler. The hottest temperature it reached was 122. The airport was even closed. June is probably the hottest month; but July and August are more humid and miserable. It is called the monsoon season which is mostly duststorms; but some heavy rain at times. If you can tolerate July and August you will have no problem the rest of the year. The weather is awesome about 8 1/2 months of the year. Almost every day in the summer is over 100 but it is a dry heat which is often joked about (usually less than 10% humidity). The 3 typical summer months have many 110+ degree temperatures. The winters are typically 65-70 ranges in the day and 40s at night. This time of year it has been in the 90s with a low about 70. Hope it helps.

I must have been there the day it was a 122 degrees F. Silly us, we decided to head home for California and it was a miserable trip. It was so hot we could not run the car's AC. We hung our heads out, well thought about it, as it was so hot.
We drank a lot of water and said never again would we try driving in that heat.
Phoenix is a hot city, more so, after all the asphalt, pools and population have moved into the valley.

First thing to come to my mind when I stepped out of Sky Harbor on October 24th at 10:30am was "damn, this is 90*?" It felt warm, but nice. Then I stepped out into the sun...then "holy $hit!" The sun is intense there, Ill put it that way.

I've honestly gotten use to the heat. I ride a motorcycle when its 105-110 and even though i do sweat a lot, i'm ok.
In the desert, its suppose to be cold at night and hot during the day. It stays hot for a long time because of all the black pavement we have. The sun will get you if you're not careful.

I totally agree, can't stand freezing in the grocery stores or movies, in fact I take a blanket to the movies, why do they keep it so cold? Always a relief to get back in the heat. Just feels better, rather be hot than cold.
And whoever said it hits 120 routinely is full of it, 116, maybe on a late July day. And that's rare. Hottest day ever here was 6/22/90, 122. I was here, felt like any other hot day.

100 is great here!
Perfect weather until about 109. For me thats my, oh yuck scale. I love swimming so I like it a little hot but after 109 it's like swimming in the bath tub. This is our summer. Right now, after May starts our "Satan's home" kinda weather. lol I call it the Satan season. It feels like you live in hell. So enjoy it now. If you swim a lot it will make it easier. You will appreciate a good swim with no chill. It's the length of heat not so much the intensity for me. Like winter never ending for the up North crowd. You just get sick of your car burning you, and sweating, and your ac only cooling it down to 82 at night. It's just the length for me.

This is true for Phoenix. Lake Powell on the other hand, I've seen temps getting near 140.
