Default Photo Radar-Scottsdale: Temporary Paper Lic Plate

Hi Everyone --

I tried searching for the answer to this, but couldn't come up with anything. I was driving down the 101 with a new car I had just purchased (got carried away) and sped significantly above 65 (~85) I think. I saw the camera flash, so I know I got caught, but my question is will I receive a ticket as my license plate is temporary (paper)?

Thanks for your replies or any experiences you've had.

They can easily trace temp tags, unless it can't be read by the camera; the tags are all accounted for. But it isn't too hard to trace even if the temp tag can't be seen. A certain kind of car/model/color with temp tags, meaning a recent title application, in a certain area, etc, is going to be pretty easy to find. They'll weed it out, *IF* they're determined enough to do so.

Last year there was a news piece about a ball player who thought it would be cute to blow off all the speed cameras on the 101 and give them the finger while sailing past at triple digits in his new car with temp tags.

Needless to say, they traced the car right to a dealer, and found him without much effort.

For the most part, Arizona has pretty loose gun laws ... so I say that more of us should exercise our Second Amendment rights and do some target practicing on these photo radar cameras. Remember, the Second Amendment was established as a way for citizens to stand up against out of control government, and this is one of those times. The politicians in this state think they know what's best & safe for all of us, so they set the speed limits on a lot of these freeways at low levels and then collect revenue for the state via robotic radar patrol ... not human officers, mind you.

Never mind all the intoxicated, inattentive, or slow moving pokes who are the real dangers on the highways. Just make sure to nab all the people who are driving more than 75 MPH, even if the conditions allow for it. It's all a matter of the state being short on funds to waste, and they want drivers to contribute to paying down the deficit. It's about revenue generation ... not safety!

Well said, Valley Native! Now the question is whether temp tag info can be effectively read by the cameras?

Most likely, Juanitaz . . . my bet is YES, they will be able to find you.

Just be prepared to pay the fine and take the Driving Class.

Great suggestion, Valley . . . why not turn a speeding ticket into a FELON CONVICTION?

Bummer, I wasn't entirely serious about shooting out cameras. Personally, I would never do it ... but I would cheer loudly if someone else had the nerve to take on such an adventure.

This should be a wake up call to those who favor radar cameras all over the highways. What concerns me the most is the attitude that because there are a FEW idiots who treat the freeways like NASCAR race tracks, everybody who drives a little fast is automatically labeled as unsafe, a speed demon, or a criminal. Putting Big Brother on every highway is both socialist and fascist as far as I'm concerned.

Generally speaking, Arizonans have always driven fast for a reason. The weather is clear most of the time, the roads are usually in good shape, and the freeways are straight & wide for the most part. Provided that traffic is light, there is no reason why a person can't be reasonable & prudent by driving 80 MPH or more in those conditions. The real dangers out there are the inattentive ones (fast or slow). In the 25 + years I've been driving, I've never been in an accident ... but most of my "near misses" have been from slow drivers who nearly sideswiped me because they didn't know where they were going & obviously weren't paying attention!

You aren't kidding about this. You've got a handful of people who aren't smart enough to know to come inside out of the rain, ruining it for people who can drive like adults.

How about severe penalties for left lane riding morons and people who are too friggin' stupid and lazy to use turn signals (and probably too lazy to wipe their a**es). Those, in my opinion, are the two most common, stupid violations. And they'd generate piles of money.

Third worst violations, are the road ragers. Guess the road is where even the biggest losers in the world, can "win" at something, at least in their head.
