Default Relocating to Phoenix area...please help !!!

My wife and I are relocating to the Phoenix area for a job opportunity....we are 40 and 45. We lived in Florida for many years...hated the heat and humidity...been in PA for 18 months and loved it, but my work here is over. I am dreading being in a suit and tie all summer, in Phoenix, and assume that even in the dry heat, I'll be sweating like a pig. But, it is a good job opportunity and an adventure for us to move to the southwest. We do not know the area at all.
My work will have me traveling around the Phoenix area 70%....the other 20% will be around Scottsdale, Tempe, and even a little in Flagstaff.....and an quarterly week in Denver. I'd love to live in Flagstaff, where it is cooler, but then I'd be driving all the way to Phoenix most days, so I guess that doesn't work.
We are hoping to find an apartment to rent for the first year...see if we like the area before buying. We'd like to find a 2/2 for $1000 or under, in a quiet SAFE area. Phoenix ? Scottsdale ? particular apartments ? Suggestions and ideas would be greatly appreciated....thanks in advance !

Not going to lie to you. It gets hot and stays hot 24/7 during summers in Phoenix. If the heat really bothers you then you really need to weigh you options. Just because it is a Dry heat doesn't mean it really isn't 115 outside...because it is...

Default I appreciate it...

I have to move there.....job is there. I survived 40 years in SW Florida....have to go....even if it is only for one year. It will be an adventure. I am leaning towards getting an apartment in Scottsdale or Tempe, but no idea where...suggestions ?

If you are going to be traveling all over the Phoenix metro area, I would recommend getting a place as central as possible...but still nice, maybe around the Biltmore area (24th St and Camelback Rd).

I lived in Florida, central, for 4 years--the heat and summers there are nothing compared to here. The heat here is unrelenting and harder to take. I didn't think that possible, after all Florida is hot, but this is much hotter.
Monsoon time, late July to August, provides some relief, maybe 3 out of 7 days, but not that much--depending on the year. If you are going to be travelling in your car-make sure you get a car with super duper A/C.
Living as close to where you'll be doing most ofo your travelling would be another essential. And, bring a cooler in the am, filled with cold water jugs, too, might be helpful.

Fair warning, never forget your sunscreen, and make sure to bring lip balm everywhere if you are doing any walking in the summer.

Try to get tinted windows if you don't have them already (worth it) and take advantage of the phoenix pools. They are open most days of the week and they charge about .50-$1 per person.

How does your body every really adjust to this heat? Maybe if we lived in a more natural environment (without the sound of construction hammers day and night building the next K-Mart on the next black-topped road near the next subdivision), our bodies could adjust.
