gila monster--you sound like me, I always say I quit watching the news because all it is is "murder and mayhem." I am seriously looking to relocate within the next two years and believe me, I will be looking at crime rates, something I did not do when relocating here.

The fact that everyone compares it to the most dangerous cities tells me that the stats are right. If not why bother comparing the crime. The fact is there are a lot of cities that ARE safer than Phoenix. Not everyone is coming from L.A. or Philly! Some people don't want any city in the top 10. They don't like a lot of crime and it's important to them. It's not all about the weather for some people.

I'm so use to seeing murder every night on the news here but some people are not. I can understand where there coming from. Really.

I'm also surprised by the number of home invasions here, given how many folks are well armed. Phoenix has a high ratio of stupid criminals.

I took my AZ CCW class last weekend, since my other CCW's aren't good here once I become an AZ resident. Anyway, if you took a look at some of the people in that class, you'd never ever take them for gun folks. But all of them brought guns. I have a lot of guns in the house and would never even think of relying on the police to do anything but clean up the mess and take the report. 911 is government-sponsored dial-a-prayer. Anyone who breaks into my house will be shot, survivors will be shot again.

Just like I don't work in the garage without a fire extinguisher nearby, I don't go too many places without a sidearm.

It happened all right. March 22, 2 shootings at Scottsdale and Shea (related). Closing time, nightclub, etc. The guy was in the club, got booted by the bouncers, waited around in the parking lot to get revenge, you know how it goes. Typical g-money bullsh*t. Although it's not universal, some people go to nightclubs looking for trouble, or at least they embrace it when it comes their way. Couple that with drug use, intoxication, anger management problems, and just plain stupidity, and the mix is often a problem. But that's what people do. One more reason, I stay away from nightclubs, particularly in the late hours. Supposedly, this particular nightclub has had problems with trashy clientele before, but I don't go there so I couldn't verify that.
