Youre in Calgary, not Michigan. There are 5 months in MI where the average snowfall is 0". Hmmm, not exactly "9 months of winter" now is it?
In Detroit, there are only 3 months where the average high is in the 30s, 1 month where it averages in the low 40s, 1 month at 50 degrees, the other 7 months average 60 degrees to 83 degrees. Hardly what I call winter weather.

Just my $0.02...I think hearing the "F-Bomb" happens anywhere and everywhere today, as does road rage. I live in a very small town and both occur frequently. If not yelling out windows, then mean glares and rude hand gestures.
It doesn't bother me. Heck, that's part of the fun of living in the city - you get bragging rights to say you deal with "urban" hassles like that...I'm looking forward to a few years of more excitement than "oh no the red light on main street went out!"

But I couldn't imagine a house big enough, or nice enough, in Buckeye or almost anywhere in the WV, to be worth a million. It's just surrounded by too much filth.

Yes, Buckeye has million dollar homes and so do many other areas in the west valley. I was surprised by this post from you when you included most of the west valley cities in your "nice" category in your earlier post.

Nice to me is not million dollar homes. That, to me, would be exclusive and luxurious for this area.
I could see paying 400K or so for a nice WV place, and be a bit more willing to drive through some rough areas, or have to shop amongst some thugs. For a million bucks, I would expect a little buffer zone from all that.

Crummy
West Phoenix, South Phoenix, Laveen, Tolleson, Avondale, South Glendale, Buckeye, El Mirage, Mesa, South Peoria.
That's all I can think of, besides Cave Creek and Surprise, which IMO are a bit of both.
I have 17 nice areas I can think of, and 10 crummy I can think of. Now, which covers the majority of the valley, the 17 nice or 10 crummy?

My list would look like this:
Nice
North Scottsdale, Arcadia, Biltmore, Tempe, Goodyear, North Glendale, North Peoria, the Sun Cities, North Phoenix, Central Phoenix, East Mesa, Palm Valley, South Chandler, Southeast Gilbert, Paradise Valley, Litchfield Park, Fountain Hills, Anthem, Cave Creek, Surprise, and some areas of Buckeye.
Not so Nice (Most of these are not dangerous; they just are older and not maintained as well)
South Phoenix, Maryvale, South Glendale, most of Buckeye, El Mirage, most of Mesa, Guadalupe, Apache Junction, South Peoria, South Scottsdale, North Chandler, West Chandler, and North Gilbert.
I haven't seen enough of Laveen, Tolleson, Avondale, Queen Creek, and Maricopa to comment about them.

That's just it though; there are exclusive and luxurious areas on the west side too. Blackstone is just one example of many. From what I've seen there are just as many not so nice areas in the east valley with "thugs" as well as upscale areas as there are in the west valley. Another person that I met today said it well. They used to live in the east valley about 20 years ago and their parents told them never to buy a home in the "avenues" (meaning west valley). Back then they said that 35th Avenue was considered "far west Phoenix". I hadn't heard of the west valley being termed the "avenues" until today. They moved from AZ and returned to Phoenix recently, and bought in the west valley. They said it's wonderful to see how the west valley has changed and expanded with so many amazing upscale developments and luxurious homes. They love it here, and so do we.

I would pick South Scottsdale, North/West Chandler over Maryvale, El Mirage and South Glendale in a heart beat. The worst parts of the East Valley pale in comparison to the worst parts of the West Valley.

Maryvale, sure, but most of Mesa, Guadalupe, and South Phoenix (including the SE side) are just as bad. And, El Mirage and South Glendale are no worse than Apache Junction, NW Chandler, and North Gilbert. South Scottsdale is only slightly better.

I was recently downtown and felt something similar - I wouldn't have used the word "ghetto," but I was surprised at how deserted and under-used it felt. I think Phoenix may well just be a sad example of bad planning, and a lack of civic-mindedness.
