Default Has anyone used Angie's List?

I'm getting so fed up with being unable to find workmen - a gardener or contractor at the moment - but I don't know anyone who has actually used Angie's List as a source. And I'm leery of spending so much money to register when I don't know what I'm getting.

I've used it, but I did not renew my subscription when it expired. These days, there are just so many free review sites that it doesn't seem worthwhile to pay for a subscription one. One free alternative is Kudzu.

Totally agree. Kudzu is a great source as you mention, Yelp.com is another good one, also local.yahoo.com has reviews for many things. I'm sure Angie's list is a great site, but why pay for someone's opinion on a service when you can get it for free?

I have changed my user name on many forums to "fedupwithangieslist".
My experience with them was plain awful. I will not go into details, but I invite anyone who wishes to join Angie's List and dish out good money on a dubious company, to do a Google search: "Angie's List complaints" or "angie's list sucks".
I wish I had researched this company. I would have never messed with them.
I saw negative reports from a TV station in Tampa, Florida, dissatisfied employees, angry contractors who were alleggedly blacklisted because they were not paying ones (contractors have to pay to be on top of Angie's List), customers who received poor services from the contractors they hired through this list.

My opinion? Due a diligent search before you get involved.

I'm glad to know this because I had the site bookmarked. I got a pretty good handiman--he can fix everything but a broken heart--from asking the guy at the local True Value for a recommendation.
