Smile Are there bad neighborhoods in Scottsdale?

Hi everyone!

My boyfriend and I are looking to visit beautiful AZ and we will be staying in Scottsdale. So far, I have read really nice things about the area, but like anywhere else- I am sure there are certain parts to steer clear of. Can anyone give any advice on any hip/happenin' nightlife and dining and of course, what would be the "bad parts" to avoid.

p.s. we are from NYC. To us, "bad parts" refers to places of rampant crime and unemployment, gangbangers, dudes drinking out of paper bags and/or shooting up and gun-toting hotheads...

Uhhh...no, probably not in Scottsdale. Makes me wonder why anyone would want to live in NYC?

Well, first off, the worst neighborhoods in Scottsdale are tame compared to the worst in NYC, hands down. There are some areas in southern Scottsdale that I wont go to, even some in central Scottsdale, but theyre hardly bad. Just kinda run-down looking with some bums walking around and some gangbanger-ish types roaming around.

And esselcue, there are many places in NYC that are absolutely world class, thats why MANY people love living there. NYC is very safe considering its size, and many people acknowledge that. If youre looking for an incredible big-city lifestyle (and can afford it), NYC is INCREDIBLE!

Aside from W of 68th St and S of Osborn; I cannot think of a single neighborhood that is 'sketchy' in Scottsdale. There is one street just S of McDowell that has a few questionable apartment houses-------but, the area is being cleaned out, one unit at a time

We were at the Fry's in Scottsdale (central area) and there were homies all over the place, including some bums sleeping at the Burger King over in that area (or was it Arby's, I forget)? Also saw quite a few bums near Old Town, but that area is completely safe, just several annoying panhandlers. And Im not sure that this is even Scottsdale, but the neighborhood south of the Billet Bar (once you pass over the waterway) wasnt very nice either. Saw some spraypainted fences and some "homie" types hanging out. Like I said, theyre not horrible neighborhoods, but I dont think Id feel 100% safe at night there alone either.

The Pairut area in Scottsdale is their low income housing, illegals, etc type area. I was shown the worst of the worst areas when I was applying with their department.

Hmm, I don't even know what area that is and I live in North Scottsdale. When in doubt, come to North Scottsdale. It's safe here and there are some things to do.

Did a Google search with no luck. What area is that? My sister-in-law recently bought (in my opinion, then again I haven't spent much time there) a crappy house in a crappy neighborhood and spent way to much. She is by the the 101 and Thomas.

So what area is that?
