How expensive is it to live in Scottsdale. Can I afford to move there if I had a job that pays 55k? What is rent like? What do houses cost? Are there many jobs that pay 55k?

Well, how much do you want to spend? There's a price for anyone really. The cheaper the homes, the not as nice the area it will be though.
Check out realtor.com for prices. |

I wanted to live in Scottsdale too, but couldn't (wouldn't) afford it in 2006. Back then, a 2,000 sq ft house, which IMO is appropriate for a family of 4, was $500K - $700K. I'm not sure what the prices are this year, but I would guess a tiny bit lower. I'm referring to the nicer parts of south Scottsdale, but not the even nicer north Scottsdale.
You'll find plenty of jobs here for $55K, but depending on your field and where you're coming from, it might be the same job that pays $70K in another city. |

I think it was also just bad timing on my part. I was looking into the Shea/Hayden area. The market was still jacked up when I started looking.

I would want a nice one bedroom. What do those go for?

Are there a lot of finance jobs in Scottsdale?

For a nice area and a nice apt, it might be around $900 or more. For an older apt in a decent area it would be less, but not sure about the price range. Check out various apartment search websites for more info.

Imho,
This following formula is based on my personal job search for various IT positions in the last couple of years: What you make in AZ = $ NY/CA = $ + ($ x 5% ~ 25%) Midwest = $ - ($ x 5% ~ 25%) |
