I need help finding an apartment
Hi,
I am moving to Arizona with my boyfriend in July to attend graduate school at ASU. I have spent a lot of time researching apartments on the internet with little luck, and I was hoping that someone would be able to recommend a decent apartment. I'm currently trying to make a list of places to look at when we visit the Phoenix area in June.
We are looking for a one bedroom apartment and don't want to spend any more than $1000/month once utilities are added into it(An apartment with either some or all utilities included would be ideal, although I realize that may be too picky). I'm also hoping to find housing in an area that is quiet(no partying college kids) and safe (preferably a gated community). As far as location, my boyfriend will be teaching on North 27th St in Phoenix (Zipcode 85015), and I will be going to school at the Tempe campus. We're hoping to find an apartment that will be no more than a 20 minute drive to work/school for either one of us. I would be very grateful for any recommendations or advice. Thanks!

You should not have problems if you are looking in this price range. Not far from my house they rent 2br townhouses for about $ 800 which are very nice and in a good neighborhood.
There are hundreds of apartment complexes. That said, from experience I can strongly suggest to look at the complex before you decide. Many look wonderful on the internet only to be a dump in reality. I would suggest you come to the city, stay for 2 weeks in one of the better extended stay hotels and seriously drive around looking at the complexes.
I don't know any in the area of town you are looking in. If you consider moving to the EV I could recommend some.

If you look in the areas around where your bf is working you'll find some nice apartments, condos, duplexes. There are undesireable pockets in those areas though, you definitely have to eyeball the neighborhood. Your should be able to find rent in the 700-850 range. And your commute should take 20-30 minutes to Tempe depending on traffic conditions.
You might find apartment rentals a bit less expensive around the tempe area though, Ahwatuke is a great area, lots of apartments.
Good luck.

I recommend Arcadia Cove in East Phoenix. Close to ASU and probably close to where your boyfriend will teach. Walking distance to Sears, Target, grocery store (Fry's), and some other small stores and restaurants. Public library, airport, Papago Park (hiking, biking, etc), Phoenix Zoo, Botanical Garden, downtown Scottsdale are close by as well, probably less than a 20 minute drive. There are a few other apartments in the area if you think those are pricey.
