i wouldn't say that at all

you have to realize that roads out here can go 30-40 + miles - if i was 20 miles east i'd be periously close to van buren - but i don't so it's fine

It's a big city.. complete with all the things (good and bad) that come with that. As of 2007, the Phoenix Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) had an estimated population of 4,179,427, and West of the Rockies (maybe even the Mississippi) it's second only to the Los Angeles Metro Area in both square miles and population. I think that pretty well tells the story... for both.

I guess you are trying to draw attention to SF area? If so, by now we have passed them if not the next one up the list, Detroit, which is bleeding people. Look out Boston!

LOL, I see what you mean. True, I think his "west of the Rockies" made more sense, but he did forget about the Bay Area.

west of the rockies was definitely the main point and in 07 they were neck & neck with the bay area - by now i'm sure phoenix has passed it and sits only behind the LA region

are you just trying to be a contrarian?

No doubt phoenix is moving up the list. But it's interesting to note the big differences between ranking city population and MSA population. Phoenix number 4 or 5 in the former, and 13 in the later.

What do you all think is the better indicator of how "major" a city is?
