Yup, dry heat. Usually around 10% humidity in May/June.

Today is a perfect example of that...it is in the mid-90's (humidity around 8%) but VERY comfortable outside

BTW, I do now have a car with dark tinted windows, an auto-starter that adjusts the temperature inside (either hot or cold), and a sunshade. Much easier to get into the car now on those warm afternoons

We need more trees, but we don't want to water them 3 times a day so we don't have any. It's give and take. No snow, burn your legs and hands off in the summer on a hot seat belt. What can you do. I remember when the kids were small and in car seats turning on the car and waiting 10 min. for the car to cool down so I could buckle them up with out burning them after a trip to the store. The groceries were melting, etc. The only down side to this is that it's a daily experience out here for months. It's our "winter" time. I learned after a few years to start grocery shopping at night. Fixed that problem. It takes me a while. lol
Yep, many won't have shaded or covered parking. If you have covered or garage parking at your job than you're lucky! My BF had his dashed replaced due to it melting a bit.

Here we go again...

You know how many 90 degree days we average here in Chicago? 18. You know how many days PHX averages that are 90+? 167. Dry or not, when you average over 150 days of 90+ temps, that is a lot of warm/hot days.

Yes, it can and does get really humid here, but this isnt Miami where its a sauna the entire summer. We get some select days here and there where its really hot and sticky, thats about it. The rest of spring, summer and fall are in the perfectly comfortable 60/70/80 range with mild to moderate humidity levels. Chicago's summers are FAR more comfortable than in PHX, FAR less hot, and not nearly as long. I cant believe you'd even try and compare the two.

I thought you were going to Wisconsin for the weekend. Go on, get outta here! We'll still be putting down the Windy City when you get back.

i agree with all the posts about arizona/las vegas heat vs. chicago heat. today, its close to 90 in Chicago, but the wind, clouds and rain make it more bearable. having been to vegas in the middle of july, i'll take Chicago heat anyday

Fine! I will!

Go ahead and rip Chicago all you want, I just get tired of people thinking its like Miami here all summer. Not even close.

Well, Im outta here pretty soon. Off to visit Fish Creek, WI's cool 70 degree highs. Gotta get out of this heat wave here in IL, it blows.

Have a good weekend everyone.

You don't see Phoenix headlines like you do in Chicago...CHICAGO HEAT KILLS 46, PROSTRATES 200; Five Suicides on Hottest June Day on Record, with Street Temperature 102.

CHICAGO, June 30. -- Forty-six persons are known to have died here to-day as a result of the intense heat. This number includes only the cases reported by the Coroner and the police, and, it is expected, will be increased by reports of private physicians. Most of these deaths were the direct result of heat strokes, five persons committed suicide as a result of the heat, and two deaths were of children seeking relief.

If I'm a kid and I'm playing a soccer game outside for 3 hours, give me Chicago over Phoenix anyday. As an adult simply going back and forth to work, I prefer Phoenix. The heat is bad but I don't feel like I have to shower just walking 10 minutes to my car. In Chicago, the minute you step outside in the summer, you start sweating

But the point is even your summers have bad stretches. It's difficult to find a truly cold and horrible winter day in Phoenix. Your Spring is nothing to brag about. It's just less cold than your brutal winters but its much more cold than spring in other cities. It's not uncommon for Chicago to be cold on Memorial day. I will acknowledge, your fall is beautiful. But people don't live in Chicago for the weather. You are the only person I know from Chicago that tries to argue it has nice weather. The summer and fall is what makes Chicago somewhat bearable and people deal with it but no one would try to argue that Chicago has nicer weather than Phoenix. Why do you think everyone from Chicago moves here?

Wow! That's interesting. I've never seen a headline like this in Phoenix. Here is another article I found in which 739 people died of a heat wave in Chicago in 1995
