Do not greet Phoenicians with "howdy". In fact, do not greet them at all. We don't talk to strangers. Or our neighbors. You can smile and wave at them after you've been in the neighborhood for a year or so, but don't be surprised if you get a blank stare or no acknowledgement at all in return. They're not being rude, it's just that those that see you might not know what to make of such odd behavior and the others were avoiding eye contact and didn't see you.

IE-aint that the truth. Saying hi to my neighbor has become this kind of sick joke we all do because she just looks at us like we are aliens. It's so funny. She never does anything back. And I'm not exaggerating. he he
I am not the emotional type. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

I just saw a show on relocating to Brazil on international home finders (HGTV)
it is beautiful there, and has a nice downtown. Not what I would have expected at all. I was really impressed. So mellow.

I've been to Central Brazil, Brasilia, the capitol. Brazil is an amazing country, and large. The people live in the moment and are genuinely very happy people--even though some are extremely poor. Totally different culture than here.
I tell my husband, too, that I want to go to Naples, Italy to see some of "my people" and eat pasta all day long till I explode (who cares at this point). I guess they talk loud there and eat all day and hug/kiss each other alot. Could life get better than this??

Europe is NO BETTER. I am from Europe and let me tell you that it's the same everywhere. There are parts of Europe (France) and other countries where they don't even acknowledge your existence. The world is the world. People are people, no matter where.

Save yourself the time and money, it's the same everywhere... Mankind is inherently evil.

Bwahahaha the "stay away from Maryvale" comments have me cracking up. Maryvale was never intended to be a high society neighborhood. Maryvale was ghetto as soon as it was built in the 1950's.
It was ghetto when my mom grew up there late 50's/ early 60's and it was ghetto when I was a kid 30 years ago, and it will be ghetto 30 years from now....There are just some neighborhoods that are like that.
I wouldn't be afraid to spend time in Maryvale, I just wouldn't live there.

Default Oh brother! What is with these Phoenix Posters????

We moved from the cold and snow back east and have never regretted it. Life is what you make it where ever you live.

There is so much , biking, etc...) than back east. There are a ton of planned communities with bike trails, parks and schools built within the neighborhood. Shopping is literally on every corner. It seems new malls are opening each season. The summer is hot but everything is air conditioned. In the summer, you get up earlier and get your errands done. The afternoons, you find a nice indoor activity (siesta, anyone?)

People living here are from all over the country and it is rare you find a native Arizonan. This helps socially as people are more open to meeting new people. The Arts are of paramount importance here. Each city tries to outdo the next with their Art Centers (look up the Tempe Art Center and Mesa Art Center).

Those that are unhappy here often are those that miss the Green of the midwest and east. It is definitely not grassy here.
Come and see what you think!

you're right, some of the things stated here just are NOT what they seem. it really is hard to base anything *for certain* on anyone else's opinions - in online forums or otherwise - because to each their own.

haha, the one thing that did get me was the concern over not ending up in the 'ghetto' here. i don't doubt there are nicer areas and then there are nice-but-not-as-nice areas but after knowing detroit, i see no areas here yet that scare me

and yes it's hot but again, all comes back to YOU! i personally freeze to death approximately 8/12 months in michigan (no joke, it's not fun!), here i am in BLISS, ETERNAL =)

the forums were of great help to us though and i still enjoy reading them, but at the end of the day a lot of the things said - that we ALL say, not pointing fingers - are opinion and nothing more.

be well.
No, we've never been to Phoenix.
Yeah, the weather here in Michigan is just plain crazy. You know the line, "If you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes."
We just had a severe thunderstorm that caused 6 deaths and numerous power outages and big-time property damage. Monster-sized trees uprooted only to fall on cars and houses. Same old stuff.
Haven't seen it snow in June yet. You think I'm kidding don't you? I've seen it snow in June. Little ice crystals floating in the air...
C'mon on up everyone, and I'll show you around. Ha, Ha.

Thanks for the positive outlook!
