Default Relocating to Phoenix, 25 Female - help please

Hi,

I'm hoping for some advice/information... I'm relocating for a sales position so I can live anywhere in the Phoenix area. I'd like to be in a place that has a high precentage of people in their mid twenties to mid thirties and that has a variety of entertainment, shopping, dinning and nightlife. I'll be moving alone and don't know anyone in the area so I definitely need to live in a safe area also. I'd be happy to hear any suggestions or comments!

Thank you!

I think Scottsdale is ideal if you are willing to live in an apartment or can afford a home in the 500K + range, generally speaking. If you are seeking a house, I would consider the south tempe and chandler area. Homes are affordable and the residents are young and educated. There are other areas as well but these are my suggestions.

Default This one screams Scottsdale...

Emily,

Do you like to drink? smoke? shop? do you own a brand name purse? Do you like Hott horny guys that can last for hours in bed? regularly spend excess of $240 for pair of jeans like I do? Do you know what FUPA is? how about +2's? and finally,do you breathe?

if you said yes to any of the above, you want North Scottsdale...Mabe downtown Phoenix...

Aye, aye, aye, I live in N. Scottsdale and I'm old. Why would a person come here in their mid-twenties when they could live near Mill Avenue in Tempe which is just teaming with twenty somethings and it's the closest thing approximating an urbane feel? I lived in Tempe when I was in my mid 30s and for me that was the best choice. Scottsdale's rep is just not deserving.

Moving on,

I know I know....but you can play along. Mill Ave.? are you kidding? that place is nothing short of oh, I dunno, BORINGGGG....that area is tiny and really nothing much there at all, to me...I mean I was shocked when I went there before/after ASU football game how tiny it is...you hear all this talk about how ASU is one of the largest schools, etc and people told me to go check out Mill Ave....well if you judge by Mill ave, it does not stack up. Well I did check it out and the only tentalizing thing I saw there were Urban Outfitters and Starbucks!

Try to take the negative comments with a grain of salt. There are plenty of good areas for what you are looking for. But you really must come eye ball them before you decide. Don't try to do it over the internet. Maybe you can get a long term stay hotel for a couple of weeks and check out the area before you move all your stuff here. There are a lot of long term hotels that are safe and inexpensive.

Anyway, look into downtown Scottsdale. Stay east of Scottsdale road and north of Osborne. I like the area around Indian School a few blocks east of Scottsdale Road and north of that. There is PLENTY of nightlife, shopping (very upscale mall Neiman Marcus, Tiffany, etc.), nice natural grocery store "Sprouts", art galleries (mostly southwestern), plus it is very centrally located to most of the valleys attractions.

Mill Avenue in Tempe. The main drag near ASU. It's nothing fantastic, but if you like a younger vibe, check it out.

The Kierland Commons area. This is just an area by a large upscale outdoor mall. There are plenty of restaurants and shopping. It's safe and there are a lot of young professionals. You could get a nice apartment around here and meet a lot of people pretty easily. Pretty yuppy-fied...so if you aren't into that you won't like it.

Area around Frank Lloyd Wright and Scottsdale road (and east). Lots of apartments, shopping (kind of fancy strip mall), restaurants (upscale chains some independents). Kind of suburban, yuppie, professional. Safe area, lots of transplants like yourself. Close to frway, but is pretty far north.

Far north scottsdale around DC Ranch and above is getting pretty far out. Some nice condos, and a few apts. More of a natural though suburban vibe. If you like to bike and do outdoor stuff you might find this attractive. Not far from the frwy, but it is far out.

Downtown Phx. Check it out. Just starting to bloom down there. Not the safest area. Some artists, professionals, counterculture types are trying to bring that area to life. It has great potential, but not quite liveable in MY opinion.

The Biltmore area around 24th and Camelback. Central phx. Lots of housing. Lots of nice restaurants, clubs, shopping. Relatively safe, but be aware. Lots of transplants like yourself, lots of mid twenties-thirties professionals. In the middle of everything, near frwy.

I wouldn't suggest west phx, or the suburbs like mesa, chandler, awatukee, laveen. Too far out and mainly "family".

I'm sure one of these areas will appeal to you. Good luck.
