I always considered a car a utility, to get me where I need to go, the safest and most economical way. But many I know just derive more pleasure from all things vehicle-related. I don't know if they're insecure or posers- probably to some degree like most of us. A buddy of mine, smart guy, just gets bored with his cars after a few years, and is always looking for something new and more interesting.

While there are lots of phonies who try to project am image through their cars, many just get more pleasure from vehicle than others. Others accomplish the same thing with electronics, clothing, home improvement, etc.

My weakness is electronics. With vehicles, I'm a cheapskate as much as possible.

Fine, I can move it up to 15 but you know hardly any SUV owners go offroading, and I mean truly offroading, not just driving on gravel.

Because they are compensating for a certain body part that is very small. The truck becomes the extension of their lack of physical masculinity...haha.

I think Arizona still has a bit of the western frontier bravado - like Texas - and that is where some of that comes from. I've seen many people carry guns in AZ...strapped to their waists in a restaurant, etc. It's just part of that frontier culture that has never left.

I have two cousins that own Armadas and 3 that own Hummers. Non of them own any RVs or do any offroading. I think they are in the majority, IMO.

people in AZ own large vehicles for the same reasons people do nationwide - SUV sales blew through the roof so hard that everyone came out with a version - i'd like to say AZ had that much clout, but alas we do not

people act like AZ is the only place in the nation where people commute or drive SUVs

SUV's are status symbols? Really? I always thought a Bently, Audi, BMW (not a 3 series), Mercedes (not a C-class), even a corvette were status symbols. Honestly, when I see large SUV's (besides Lexus, Caddy, Denali) I think of middle-class families and not those stroking their egos. Now, when I see an M5, CTS-V, AMG, S4 and the like I think "status symbol."
