Yes, it's enough. But with a name like Chowhound, good luck. Are you the same from the board Chowhound? If so, you are going to be disappointed. This is the land of chain restaurants.

that's false as well - there are so many good restaurants here, it's ridiculous - even the ones I love I have trouble going to more than once

you can live pretty well on that, pending your tastes & debt load

Nooooooooooooooo, I moved here from the SF Bay Area, which as anyone knows, is just in a different realm from here. Truth is, there are a ton of chains here, and anyone from Chowhound board has particular tastes, IOW, more refined tastes.

OMG - really - i am sooooo impressed - really i am.....................

listen, I love the food in SF and it is very good - what I love about it there (and places like NYC & philly) is the consistency and variety you can get as you go from neighborhood to neighborhood

there are a lot of chains here, but there is a lot of everything

from 5 diamond restaurants to hole in the walls you have plenty of non-chain options ...... for upscale with this many resorts you know that they cater to a discerning clientle

it's harding to find some foods out here, like really good delis, italian food & chinese food - however you can find some passable

but we make up for it in many other areas - you wont find many restaurants in the nation like Kai, the various fry bread stands, amazing mexican served out of gas stations, places like chino bandido as well ........... the cultural center has good dim sum, good thai food can be found and the city is a premier spot for steakhouses

I think the "resorts" are a joke here. I live in N. Scottsdale and when I drive by these places, I just shake my head. The cultural center? I went with a friend of mine from Sri Lanka and we asked two times for them to make the food hot (as in spicy) and they couldn't even manage this! Now, I do like Filibertos, but after all, we live on a border. And, BTW, this is NOT a city, rather a giant suburb!

Heck, you could even make it on minimum wage but it really wouldn'r be much of a life as xost of living is not as low as companies would like applicants from other states to believe. It ia cheaper than East or West coast but more expensive than mid west.

To answer your question, it depends on how many mouths your income is going to feed and what type of life style you'd like to live...

Depends where you want to live. What is that about 4k/month after taxes? You can find places to rent here for less then 1k/month.

Some areas are more expensive then others.

Nonsense. Any visit to the local Chowhound message board would debunk this misinformation in a second. Since you've admitted to rarely venturing outside your north Scottsdale enclave, I suspect this misconception is based more on San Francisco smugness than actual dining experiences throughout the Phoenix Metro Area, including, Heaven forbid, "the Avenues" and other "scary" places west of Tatum.
