My husband and I are looking to retire in the Phoenix area(6 months in Illinois,6 months in Phoenix area), but that will not be for about 15 years. We are thinking of purchasing something for vacation/rental property during this buyers market. What areas would be a smart value for vacation rental now and winter living in the future? Does this make sense at this time for the Phoenix market? We have read mixed advice on this. We are just exploring this option now and seeking opinions, especially from those in the area. Thanks.

For a vacation spot, I would personally choose north Scottsdale. There are no shortages of condos for sale there and tons of stuff to do. If you like the west side of the valley, you could choose to buy a home for the price of a nicer condo in Scottsdale. I would pick from the following developments. Trilogy/Vistancia, which is a 55+ community and the ammenities will keep you very busy. There are also many snowbirds that live there 1/2 the year. Del Webb/Pulte Festival is nice, a little further away from shopping, but that will soon change. The Del Webb/Pulte development in Anthem is also beautiful. Southern areas, Encantada, by Shea Homes, fantastic golf course, new shopping and restaurants coming soon. This is located in Queen Creek. Best of luck to you.
