My husband and I are house hunting and found a possibility in Gilbert's Power Ranch. I've mostly heard good things about the community but just read a post about vandals, unsupervised teens, unkept community areas... Any other input? The neighborhood I'm in now has gone downhill over the past year. I'd hate to see my next neighborhood do the same.

NEVER heard that about Power Ranch. Its a community of alot of Mormons, who don't drink, smoke , use caffeine, etc. Everytime I have driven thru there, it seems very quiet, very well kept. Considered moving there myself from Chandler, but too far from work. DR Horton has a new home site there, which is very nice. Maybe others have different opinions, but I would definitely consider it.

I am the one who wrote that post. I will say that many (if not most!) parts of Power Ranch are really nice looking. I don't live in one of those parts, so I can't say if it really is as nice as it looks- but don't get me wrong, PR isn't the "ghetto" by any stretch of the word!

There are, however, a few neighborhoods of PR that are going down the toilet. It should be immediately apparent to you as you are driving through which neighborhoods these are.

The school within PR (PR Elementary) is not doing so well either. Again, not atrocious or anything- but it's pretty well known within the community that it's kind of crap. Many around here send kids to private or charter schools, no biggie.

Distance-wise, it's pretty far on the outskirts of Gilbert- that and the school were the number one problems for us. If I could get over those issues I would have considered staying in PR, but in a better neighborhood.

Watching the once-perfect community slowly decay at the edges is a bit scary to me- I would be interested in seeing where it's at in a few years. It will never be awful because there are plenty of really high-end, quality homes and neighborhoods here. Plus, yes, it's a HEAVILY Mormon community...and they keep things pretty tight & tidy.

If you do decide to move here, you'll love the nice landscaping, community parks and activities. You just need to make sure you are in one of the better neighborhoods and hopefully avoid the main Ranch House pool- a lot of problems over there with vandalism and bad teens. Security tries to stay on top of it, but it's an uphill battle clearly. Kids broke every one of the locks on the perimeter fences and destroyed the restrooms recently

Anyway, there are a lot of positive things about PR- it's just not as peachy-keen as the brochure pictures make it seem
