Question about a particular area of Phoenix
I have a job interview on Wednesday with a company in Phoenix. The office is located right across from the Maryvale Stadium. I am doing this because of my considering moving in with my friend in Tempe. Is the area at Maryvale Stadium and 153rd St a nice area of Phoenix? I don't really want to work somewhere that is very high in crime and gangs and stuff. Any help or suggestions would be great...

Well, here is the actual address of the Maryvale Stadium. I don't know what your address is that you stated - that's way off. Maryvale is one of the most crime ridden areas of the Phx metro area. You can do a search on this forum for Maryvale and you will hardly find anything positive about it. I know we have discouraged another poster a last year that wanted to do a graveyard shift down there.

I think the office is on N 53rd Ave. It is located in the Stadium Corporate Center. Is this the same area? If so, how unsafe it is during regular bankers hours (8-5)...? Thanks Sable...

Well, crime happens at anytime of the day or night. If it were me, I wouldn't do it, but that's me. And, yes, that's the same area, just 2 blocks over.

I think that's the same neighborhood where the young girl was murdered during business hours. The strip mall with a doctor's office, etc. She worked at an insurance company. I know it was IN Maryvale and pretty close to where you are looking at. I wouldn't work anywhere near there.

Well, knowing is half the battle. I will not even fly out to Phoenix unless I know the job is in a nice area. There are nice areas in Phoenix, right? (I don't mean to sound naive, but most posts I see about Phoenix are not good)...

You'll be alright during business hours, I used to live in that area and graduated from Maryvale High so I know it pretty well.

You'll be fine during business hours. You will find that most crimes in Phoenix are not against persons but related to drug and human smuggling. That doesn't make it any better, but for someone not involved in the sale of drugs or humans...you'll be ok. Most murders in Phoenix have happened while a crime (other than the murder itself) was being commited.

You mentioned banker hours, are you going to work at a bank? I used to work as a vendor that sold stuff to most of the banks in Phoenix. The only time that I saw a bank robbery was in Maryvale. From talking to the people that worked at the branch, I got the impression that it happened on a fairly regular basis.
If you want to find out if a bank branch in Phoenix has been robbed recently, go see if they have a rent-a-cop patrolling the lobby. The banks that I worked with would hire a rent-a-cop for 30 days after each robbery and their were some branches that always seemed to have a cop there.
