we are in a very small place in the midwest, so not sure what is a good salary in phoenix, how is the cost of living? is a salary of 85k good for phoenix, at honeywell?
we are from asian indian descent.. are there lots of indians / apartments near the deer valley area?
thanks for your responses

Honeywell Aerospace Deer Valley is an excellent location. They have a great reputation. You'd be very happy in that area. The Phoenix area is multi cultural and there are many Indian/Asians living throughout the valley.
The salary of $85,000 is probably average for Honeywell, depending on your type of job, qualifications, experience etc. The public schools are as good, if not better, as any decent school district in the valley. Many go to private schools. The amenities of the Arrowhead area are excellent.

Honestly it's an OK area to work. I used to work and live there but recently moved to another company in Chandler. Personally I love the East valley more than I do Deer Valley area. It's all relative.
The Honeywell in Deer Valley is an old Sperry plant so there are a lot of old timers. It's a lot more laid back than the Warner plant in Tempe (the old Allied Signal plant). I met lots of great ppl and some bad. I personally think it's the same everywhere else.
As far as salary, $85k for Honeywell does sound about average for an Engineer. If you go to other companies it's a little more ($90-100k) I believe. Whatever the case, you should be doing pretty well with a salary like that in Phoenix. It's well above average.
There are a lot of Asian Indians at Honeywell but not as much as other tech companies. Mostly because of the work that they do. But they do have their share amount in Deer Valley. You should be able to meet others pretty easily. Again, in the East Valley there is a huge contingency of Asian Indians, a lot from Intel.
There are some descent apartments by the Deer Valley plant. In fact one that is less than 1/4 mile away. But, most of the nicer apartments reside in Arrowhead which is about 10-15 mins. away with no traffic.

I work for Honeywell and for a time worked at that plant. I have been with Honeywell for 10 years and been generally happy. It is a big company and operates like one that means work enviroment is very dependant on who you work for in the company. There are nice pockets and crappy ones. Tough to generalize.
Honywell does have bonus plan, but it depend on you salary band. Some get it, but alot do not.
Depend on your expenses an 85k salary will get you a nice living in the North Phoenix area. Not super rich, but still quite nice and well above the median numbers for the entire metro area. The cost of living is a bit higher here than in the Mid-west, but not that much. 85k in North Scottsale won't get you far as it takes alot more money to play in that part of town. Very expensive. As for 85k being good... that all depend on your job. It can be great money or crap money depending on the job function.
If you like the work you will be doing go for it.

I don't work there, never have but my step mom has been there for about 30 years.
What I can attest to though is living in Deer Valley.
I love where I live. I rarely have to fight traffic and the housing is nice. Shopping is close by and convenient.
All of Phoenix is multicultural.
The Deer Valley school district is a good one, the teachers really care and the district on a whole is performing well. If you have a special needs child, i would look elsewhere though. But that doesn't seem to be limited to only DVUSD. That are school districts on a whole in AZ.
