Thanks everyone for the advice. I think i have decided on moving downtown when we come out here in october. Also, I heard the scottsdale is often referred to snottsdale and snobsdale? Is it a snobby city?

Scottsdale is kinda "snotty" but that doesn't deter us from goin' there to eat.

Heck, even some of the servers can be pretentious. Ya kinda get used to it, LOL.

We looked at a beautiful home at Glendale & Central....

Scottsdale is actually pretty big, and there are plenty of non-snotty--or even snooty--parts.

I know the sales rep., Kattie, and she laughed when I suggested that price for the 2 bedrooms available. Again, a lot of what you suggest around 200k would be small, VERY small and they asked for information on something that would be a two bedroom. As for downtown Scottsdale...I would say no, but I'm not too familiar with prices there.
I guess it depends on your definition of a "box". 750-830 sq ft is not a box to me, it's a decent size. 500 sq ft would be a box.

As for the 2 bedroom...I saw one on MLS that lists as 2 bedroom 2 bathroom for $269k but it says 751 sq ft, so it may be a type on the bedrooms/bathrooms...though they have 1 bed/1 bath for $169k-$180k so maybe it is accurate for the $269k unit.

Nah. There's an "LA" element downtown that comes across as a bit "look at me" - particularly in hot areas like Canal and SouthBridge - but Scottsdale's huge, and a lot of people live in totally normal areas of the city. Besides, Scottsdale's nice - one of the few areas in the Valley that's walkable, has water, bike trails, and some large green parkways.

I would avoid The Orpheum at all costs. The building itself is amazing: Art Deco style, great location, nice amenities. Unfortunately, most of the residents foreclosed and left in droves due to the parking situation, under which they would have to pay an exorbitant amount of money for each parking space. I have friends that used to live in the building, and they had to leave, plus they had problems with the HOA.

Are you sure? I don't think this is accurate. Actually, the building only has a few dwellings available and there is no parking situation. The residents have a lot directly behind the building in which the signs say, "Orpheum Loft Residential Parking ONLY." And is manned by security at the gate.

About a week ago I e-mailed a real estate agent about a condo there and she told me that there is no long-term provision for parking and that residents will be responsible for securing parking on their own.
