Dirty Cloud Over Phoenix
Which areas of the valley are less likely to have the dirt cloud that people have described here? Does it basically just sit on top of Phoenix? I can see it really well from my dad's home in Scottsdale.

It can be anywhere depending on which way the wind is blowing. It always looks like it is somewhere else - particularly into the direction of the sun where light is being scattered. The air quality sensors are almost always highest in the downtown area. It is something of a mischaracterization to call it a "dirty cloud". What you see are particulates - fine dust particles mostly. They are visible unlike things like ozone.

Well then my question to you all whoever can answer is, how does it affect your households? I'm very fanatical about keeping my house spiketty clean. Call me anal, call it OCD, but I hate dust, I know this is AZ. but seems all I do is dust and vacuum.
I have a lot of black chairs and couches. Black counters, desks, glass tables, tiles throughout most of my home. Dust seems to be attracted to my home because of the furnishings in some rooms more than other but it seems I dust and vacuum to the point that I don't think it is us. It's not a high traffic home, it's just 2 people. Any suggestions, answers, is it just me?

It just settled in your carpet. Best to not have carpet out here really so you can get it all up with a mop. I am the same way Prinny, I clean it seems all day just to see it all there in the morning. It's one of those pains I have in my butt. lol Make sure you change your air filters a lot. That helps.

You are funny, Thanks for the laughter! My husband changes the filters a lot, you know I keep thinking today, maybe it has to do with the alley behind my house too!

My parent's house in Litchfield Park gets dusty about once a week and I don't have problems with just at my place downtown. I think the places with the highest pollution counts in the valley are Goodyear, Fountain Hills, and South Mountain. This makes sense since these areas are closer to mountains that hold the dust in the valley a little longer.

We had a woman, in the other area we lived, who actually hosed down her entire driveway twice/day and even the road in front of her house once/day. Like way out in the road and the entire thing. She was fighting "dust." I guess the neighbors said to her she was fighting a losing battle, but she still continued on. I guess the dust makes some people go over the deep end.
