Moving to Phoenix - Opinion on a couple areas (Mesa: live, restaurants)

Hey everyone, I am moving to Phoenix soon. Just wondering a few things.

1. How bad is the morning west commute along the 202 into downtown?

2. Anyone have opinions on these areas (safety, restaurants, etc)?

A. Shadow Mountain village scottsdale (near the 202 and 101)
B. Villa Monte Vista (near S. 35th and W. Southern Ave)

1. Pretty bad, a lot of people going into the downtown area from the east side.

A. Should be good, don't know the specifics, but I don't recall hearing bad things on the news about that area.

B. That's south Phoenix, I wouldn't live there.

South Scottsdale on the 202 101 interchange is a great location. I work downtown from central scottsdale and rarely hit heavy traffic on the 202 before 8am. If there is traffice, cruise down Van Buren Street right into downtown, 20 min. max! Regarding Safety, I was told one rule when I moved here that I found to be true: live east of highway 51! Can't go wrong in: Scottsdale, Tempe, Chandler, Ahwatuukee, Gilbert. Parts of Phoenix and Mesa are okay, but check out the area! Stay away from the West side of town!
