Hmm...
ok since this is the chatroom....it's a pleasure meeting all of you. I don't yet reside in Phoenix, AZ but I will be in March. I am looking forward to meeting new people and hopefully I have picked the perfect spot to do just that....Here in this "chatroom". So anyways, I'm 28 & my husband is 30. He is a retired army vet and I am currently a dispatcher for a major university here in Tx. We enjoy much of alot of things, camping, barbeques, so on and so forth....So to make this short, if you'd like to know anything else leave us a message.....

I'm thinking of moving to the greater phoenix area in the fall of 2010. However, I need to know what kind of services are available for someone who has a special needs adult son?
He would need a day program, respite services and ideally, a group home or adult foster care situation. He lived at home with me from birth until 8 years ago but now as a single mom, it would be tough to move there without community based support services in place. Can you give me any idea of where I could begin to look for help?

I would highly recommend Good Neighbor Support Services ( www.gncares.com) my fiancee used to work for them, they offer great services, they have two locations with day programs, lots of activities and things for the child or adult to do.
They have a location in North Phoenix, and in Dysart.

Thank You
Thanks so much for responding to my post.
I really do want to move to Arizona-as you can tell from my screen name-but it's difficult when you have to take into account the special needs of a family member.
Again, thank you for taking the time to read my post and respond.
Sincerely,
Azdreaming

OK, I'll comment now
I know many Chicagoans (yes, they're called that) have moved to Phoenix, but not just to escape the winter blues, but as all-year long residents. I would like to see how much downtown condos cost? I plan on buying an online business, so jobs are a non-issue. Any thoughts?

phoenix in the 80's
i've been here since 68 and i'm 51 now. I'm not to good at this but I'll try.
anyway I am trying to track down the original Az Salsa King. I think his name was Don. He used to have a booth at the Park And Swap on washington. A cool place in the 70's and 80's. < too commercial now.
he had the greatest salsa and I used to buy 3 or 4 jars at a time from him.
I recently met a guy at roadrunner park on a sunday who now calls himself the Salsa King and he told me that his boss bought the business and name from a guy he thought might be Don? Does anyone out there remember the ORIGINAL salsa king?

silly question. But in summer how easy is it to get burned?
here in Oz we are under the hole in the ozone layer so the sun is harsh and you burn quickly without sunscreen, whats it like there?
