As for me, there have been some major changes. My second granddaughter was born in February and four days later my dad died. I made it home to the States in time to spend 10 hours with my dad before he "left" us. After returning to the UK we made the decision to move back to California instead of Arizona so we can get the hell out of this crappy country ASAP. Good news...looks like we'll be back home by the end of August or the beginning of September, just waiting for our appointment at the Embassy now for my hubby's Visa. Almost all of our furniture is sold, boxes are ready for the shipping company to pick up and our suitcases are half-way packed already

My heart was set on returning to AZ, but we are just as happy to be going to Cali instead. At least we will be back in the USA, where gasoline doesn't cost almost $13 a gallon!
Glad to here it. You have been miserable! Cali is a great choice, close enough to Phoenix but with a some beach. Bonus! Hope the Visa stuff isn't boggling you're mind. They are making it harder everyday. It will be nice changing in that euro though, with our dollar down so far, you'll have some extra cash on hand.

Sorry to hear about your father, mine passed away as well this year from Alzh. I understand the pain. Congrats on the new edition though, I love babies, they are sooooooooo cute!

My condolences again for your Dad. I'm happy you made it back in time to say goodbye. I'm sorry you're not going to be moving back to AZ, I was still looking forward to meeting you and and the English guy at the Mining Camp Restaurant and I'm jealous you get to move to CA! I haven't been back there since Nov. 2006 when my FIL died~I was on my way to Big Sur (where else?) and had to turn around in SLO. No doubt you'll have a new e-mail when you get back, so be sure to let me know!

The Visa is actually going quite well, surprisingly, LOL! It helps that I am an American residing in a foreign country. The American Embassy likes to "fast track" us so we can get home sooner

Sorry to hear about your dad passing away , too. Mine also went due to Alzheimers plus I think he lost the will to live after his carer abandoned him at the hospital and refused to take him back, AFTER she had promised him he would stay with her until he died My biggest regret is that I couldn't move home soon enough to take care of my dad in my own home. But dad and mom borth would be happy to know that I'm returning to the home town

I'm so excited about being able to watch my granddaughters (Lilli and Violet) grow up, too! My daugher and her hubby still live in Mesa but they are planning to move back to Cali within a year.

Hey AJ! Never fear, we will still get to have that steak. We are planning visits to AZ for at least the next year until my daughter and her family move back to Cali

I'm so sorry, Alz is so hard to handle. My dad finally just refused to eat and drink, it was like he was so sick of it he just decided to end it. I think it was probably good that you were not back earlier though, it was the hardest thing I've ever done taking care of someone in so much pain and misery. I still cry everyday at some point. The suffering with that illness is unbelievable. It was probably meant to be that you came in the end. Don't worry either, he probably was not aware you weren't there. My dad always forgot if I was there or how long I was there. You were there in his mind I am sure.

On a good note, the grand kids will love having you guys around. I always tell my husband I can't wait to have grand kids. I see other peoples and want to squeeze them all up! lol Grand kids are like having cute little puppies. ha ha

Nice that your having a smooth entry back into the U.S. I have been hearing nightmare stories about Visa's lately, but your right, they were going in the other direction, away from home.

Let us all know about the steak dinner guys, we will all come down and crash it. Yummy!

Unfortunately, Twiggy, I know just how terrible Alzheimers is. I used to be a manager for Encore Mesa, which I hear is now called Legacy. I was afraid dad wouldn't recognise me, plus he has become almost blind within a few weeks, but when I entered his room and spoke to him his eyes opened wide and he grabbed my hand and wouldn't let go. Bear in mind that for at least a week dad seemed unable to speak, but when my sister said "Dad, Cindy's here" we could hear a very faint "I know that!" come from dad. Those were some of the most wonderful words I've ever heard and I can at least treasure that memory.

Well, AJ, looks like we are going to either invite Twiggy for steak or suffer having the meal crashed, LOL!
