Take a look at these two links...scroll down a bit to the calendar view.

Okay, I looked at the calendar view and started laughing........then I thought about crying! We're going on vacation next week, probably either Pinetop, AZ; Seattle, WA; or Vail, CO. I think a break will help. Actually, now that I think about it, we were just in Long Beach for 2 weeks (hubby) and 1 week (me). That sure does seem like months ago!!!!!!!!

My normal routine starts changing as soon as the pool water hits 76 degrees. It's around that time I go into "hybernation mode", where my main activities are going from inside the air conditioned house to out in the pool and back again. From November through approximately April I go back to "normal living", although I have to admit, this year we had a glorious spring and I was able to enjoy it outside longer than I usually do.
I guess my short answer is that I now have two sets of normal: a six month period where I go out and do whatever I want, which is approximately from November through April, and six months of an air conditioned house/pool/I don't want to do anything else normal.

You are probably describing me. I've tried so hard to stay positive, but this is life-altering heat. I've lived in El Paso, TX and Sierra Vista, AZ and never experienced heat like this. I'm really not trying to complain, I just want to know what to expect so that I can mentally prepare myself for it! I think the area is very nice and I love our house!

Yup - especially in the morning.
Morning overcast (thin though) right now and 63 at my house. Expected high today is mid/upper 70's.
Personally I prefer 80-85 for the high but it's certainly been pleasant.

Yep...summer is the best time to go on vacation and get out of town for a bit. Last year we were gone for 3 weeks and this year will be for 10 days, it's not much...but its a couple weeks less of this heat.

We had been here during the summer before, but always on vacation and the heat ended when we returned home. I just feel like my life is on hold right now. We're talking about going to the mountains this weekend, but I need to figure out if going to the AZ mountains or going to Seattle would be more refreshing and improve our outlook a bit more. Obviously, going to AZ mountains is a whole lot less expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I could frame a post for all newcomers to see it would be this one. Time after time we hear people say they didn't think it was all that bad on their week vacation, but it's just a whole different story when it's months on end.
This is my 33rd summer here and I'm FINALLY not complaining as much as I have in the past! I'm learning to accept it because there's nothing I can do about it. I don't plan to move anytime soon. I love it here during the rest of the year and do feel it's total paradise to live here in the winter. I think it's becoming worth it during the summer. AC is my friend right now and it makes me happy.
Also, I find Oct to not be that much cooler, so I'm always waiting for Nov. I think it was two years back that we had a heat wave in mid oct where it was in the 112+ for several days. So, ever since then, I don't trust Oct to cool down. lol But, it very well could (should), so that would be a nice surprise.

That's good to know. My husband had me convinced that the worst was over and I've been feeling really disappointed because it doesn't seem any better. I guess I will just have to look forward to Nov. We moved here in Nov. and I remember using our AC, but I just thought it was because it was hotter than our July temps where we came from. I guess it may still feel hot, even after a summer here. Thanks!!

There is nothing down the road heatwise that you haven't already experienced. The June highs in the 110+, the awful humidity we had a week or so back, the warm nights. There's no more surprises that I can think of. The problem is it's just going to go on until you are ready to scream. And then it will change. I don't suppose it is different in that way than a Seattle winter that just won't go away.
Late September is way better than right now and your spirits will start to pick up because you can sense the changes coming. By late October it's all over. So relief to some degree is only 45-60 days away and total relief is maybe 90. Hang in there.

It used to be you could set your watch by it: on October 15th a cold front would come through and that would be the end of the 90s till spring. But October is the "cruelest month" here and, especially the last few years, it has been Halloween before you can count on the cool down.

I had a thought. Why don't you and your husband go tube the Salt - COLD water, breathtaking scenery. It's a summer tradition and nearly a rite of passage for all "true" Phoenicians. Besides, it's a blast particularly with a bunch of friends.

We did that about a month ago. The water was wonderful, but I think we are a bit too old to do it again. Fortunately, our 10 year-old daughter was oblivious to the "scene." I did have fun though!! Right now I'm trying to decide between a $3000 4 overnight trip to Seattle or a $600 4 overnight trip to Overgaard. Any thoughts? I should add that I'm particularly attracted to my $3000 and would hate to part with it! However, I would hate to not provide my husband with a true vacation and have him run back to where we came from!!!!!!!!! He is already peeved that I picked up a shift at work that has resulted in a much shorter vacation!
